Churches don't lend themselves well to housing. Remodeling costs would be very high. Libraries are a great idea.

Another heartbreaking and horrifying aspect of the death of Emmett Till is the fact that the woman who told her husband that he'd whistled and smiled at her confessed on her deathbed that she'd lied about it. That lie provoked his murderers. That lie set in motion Till's death by torture. She lived with that secret for fifty years, watched the men who killed Emmett get away with the murder of a child and still kept silent. I often wonder what finally made her tell the truth.

My feeling is the we as a species have no idea how to handle to the incredible amount of propaganda that's posted on Facebook. From every side. I really don't know what the solution is and I'm not even sure if we're beings capable of handling the type of large group interactions that are the norm on Facebook pages. So I don't use Facebook. My husband made me an account in 2008 and I've largely ignored it, even for family stuff. I just don't want that type of input. I'm not sure why sites like reddit are different for me. Maybe it's the anonymity.

I like the characters better. My feeling is that Gilligan wasted a great deal of audience sympathy on what was essentially an evil protagonist. I always thought of Walt as an arrogant loser, even in season one, and I found the last season of BB way over the top. I suppose I'm being set up to like the Jimmy McGill character and will hate him by the time BCS is finished though.

My first husband and I were driving home to Wisconsin from Michigan on a boiling hot summer night with our infant daughter in the back seat when our fuel pump began to die. This was in 1971, long before 24 hour gas stations were common. We were driving a 1964 Rambler. The drive was long and we were too poor to stay in a motel. The car choked and shuddered all the way through Chicago. well after midnight. As we approached the Wisconsin state line, and the engine gasped because it wasn't getting any fuel, a figure appeared on the right side of the road. A hitchhiker. He was wearing long sleeves and long black pants in the eighty five degree air. A hood covered most of his head. But his face and hands shimmered pale green and his eyes meet mine and as they did he opened his mouth, revealing the most frightening set of teeth imaginable. I seem to recall a howling noise but to this day I am not certain that there was any sound. His eyes were hot red, like two burning cigarette embers. As the car slowly rolled to what we feared would be a stop, he stepped toward us from the shoulder. I turned and lifted my baby from her car seat, sliding over toward the driver's side door as I did. I did this without even being aware of what I was doing. My husband had his hand on the door latch. As the creature's hand extended, the fuel pump leapt back to life and we left him behind us, in a pool of fog. To this day I am convinced I saw a vampire.

I'm a Democrat with socialist leanings and have been one my entire life It makes me sick to see what FDR and, to a lesser extent, LBJ accomplished socially being methodically disassembled by the current administration. I believe strongly that we need social safety nets and that we can't rely on private charities to provide for the poor, mostly because their assistance comes with strings attached. I loathe the insertion of religious dogma into our country's policies. I've never resented having to pay taxes. I've been alive long enough to see the American middle class being left behind by their government's business friendly policies and I don't think the internet has done our political will a bit of good. I am watching in horror the last shreds of global goodwill for my country being laid waste by an out of control demagogue whose own party lacks the will to rein him in. I support the Special Counsel's investigation into Russian influence on our election and am not at all convinced that Donald Trump is qualified to hold office. I've voted in every election, national, state and local since I became eligible to vote in 1972

As someone who was adopted as an infant and who wishes fervently that abortion would have been an an option for my birthmother, I find treating infants as chattel fairly offensive. You forget that the more minorities avail themselves of the right to abortion that white women do. White babies are the ones in demand. I see little discussion among anti-choice activists about addressing the lack of contraceptive availability and education that contribute the need for accessible pregnancy termination services. As someone who terminated a crisis pregnancy I can tell you that no woman makes the decision lightly. If you don't like abortion, don't have one. If you're not in a position to need an abortion then you probably should have no input into the decision to terminate and you certainly shouldn't if the pregnancy is not the result of you having impregnated the woman who's considering one.
