How's everyone's day going?
Hey guys I'm just joining Tildes after that last invite wave. I'm sure there's a lot of others just like me trying to get used to the site and I figured this might be a good start for people.
How is everyone's day going? Any big plans for the weekend?
But overall I'm just happy it's Friday. Going to try to do some gaming this weekend with my friends playing BF1 and Overwatch. Then I might enjoy the high temps in the bay area and go for a bike ride and a swim. I'm a bit tempted to go see the new Han Solo film.
I realized I'm getting old because I think I have hemmorhoids.
I had those when I was.. you don't just have to be old. So, I say with enthusiasm: welcome to the club! You're gonna wanna buy a lot of creams and wipes and pray you don't have to get any removed because it is NOT FUN. Trust me.
Oh it's definitely exciting! Fortunately, I already have bidets and will just need to get the cream
Just to make sure though, I scheduled an appointment tomorrow to have it checked out so more fun for the weekend!
Shit man good luck with the hemmorgoids. That can't be fun. I completely forgot about the new Solo movie. I was so hyped for it, but for some reason it took me a couple days to find out it was already out.

I will definitely check it out I think. Star Wars interest for me has been dwindling and I think I could attribute that in part to waiting for the movies to come to Netflix/Blu-ray and just not getting in an isolated environment to focus on the movie.
I woke up at 7.30 and mowed the lawn, showered, read some of my book, played with the dog, did meal prep for the next 5 days, washed a load of clothes, and now I'm lurking ~ with a glass of cab on the back porch listening to the new Ghost album while the grass gets watered. It's the first day of my 4 day weekend and so far it has been productive and relaxing.
Wow so far you win comment to make me most jealous. It sounds like an amazing day. I only just heard about the new album. How is it?
It's good, I know there has been some drama among the band but I feel like they kept their signature sound that made me take notice in the first place. I'm not a huge Ghost fan but I'm sure this won't be the last time i listen to this album.
Very mixed and anxious. I've been pretty miserable at work for a long while, so being at work is kind of a downer, but it's also Friday. I have a date tonight, but it's also the first I've had in a couple years and I am very nervous/anxious. The whole thing has my body feeling very buzzed - not like drunk buzzed but like an intense swarm of vibrating bees buzzed.
edit: It's like being a ready "fight or flight" adrenaline mode. I know once I get there and we sit down and grab a drink it will simmer down, but the wait is the hardest part, as Mr. Tom Petty once said.

No, my heart rate is fairly normal. I'm just a very anxious person in general lol. I'm not like desperately in love with her or anything - this will be our first time meeting. But we've been chatting on okcupid the last week or so and the conversation is going well so far.
We're meeting downtown at a rooftop bar right on the Chicago river. Should be really nice! I'm a little nervous that it will be too chilly, it seemed like a great idea when it was 85 yesterday, but it's only going to be like 60 tonight. I'm sure we'll manage okay.

Hey man we're all here for a good time, no problem. Rooftop bar sounds dope, and I'm extremely jealous of that weather; perfect sweater weather, though I've never been to Chicago so I imagine the wind makes it even colder? Either way though nothing a few drinks can't warm up!
The wind isn’t actually worse than most places. Chicago just got remembered for it for some reason.

Thanks! It was pretty nice! It was a little chilly last night for the roof deck so we stayed inside. The volume was pretty up there inside from conversation, but we managed. Drink prices were up there but not insane for the Loop - drinks were pretty tasty. Inside decor was industrial-chic I'd call it and enjoyable. Overall there are probably better places to go, but this was not bad at all.
Aww, sorry to hear that. I sometimes get that buzzy anxious thing too, it's no fun at all.

Hey, so how was the date in the end? No need to say if you'd rather not, but however it went I hope you're having a nicer day today than yesterday.
Aw, thank you for asking! It went pretty well! We definitely hit it off well and had a great conversation. She told me up front that a close friend of hers got dumped that day so we kept it to just a couple hours. But we've been chatting today via text and are hoping to do something next weekend again.
Yes today has been pretty good. Had some family obligations which are so-so in my view, but it went fine and the weather was gorgeous. How was your day?

Today was OK. I bought a car, which I didn't really want to do (but have to) but at least it's sorted out now and I don't have to worry or think about it any more. On the plus side the sun shone all day and I got to spend three hours in our current car (driving to/from the car dealership) just me and my wife which was nice - no distractions getting in the way of hanging out with her. It's funny sometimes how much time we don't spend together considering we share a house.
Hey that sounds like a good buzz! It means your excited! I took a break from relationships for a couple years so I get how weird it is to get back into dating. Just remember that they are probably just as nervous going on a first date. I always told myself that there's no difference between being confident and faking confidence. One just comes after the other.
I woke up at 4am from a bad dream. I was dreaming that all four of my kids were babies and I was tossing them up in the air and catching them and for some reason, we were living on a meteor in space.. and my wife kept trying to take them away from me.. woke up with a migraine and basically have been trying to distract myself then. Ah, PTSD and the nightmares are super fun.
My plans for the weekend are.. as soon as my dad comes out with a new lawnmower to mow the jungle in my backyard (but will have to be broken up over several days because I don't have the energy for that), plus it's going to be 105 F today with similar temps this weekend. I also need to try to muster up the motivation to stream more this weekend because I'm actually starting to get a good amount of regular viewers and I want to keep this thing rolling.. maybe play some games where the audience can join in (Jackbox Games) and see how that goes.
So.. how are you and what are your plans for the weekend?
Hell that sounds like an interesting dream. Sorry to hear about that though. Waking up like that had to be a tough way to start the day. Hope your managing to bounce back!
My day is going pretty well. It's dragging on and I'm trying to stay motivated at work which is always tough. I'm trying to go see the new Deadpool this weekend. Other than that I got a Vive not too long ago so I'm going to try to spend as much time in Skyrim VR as possible. I'm sure my girl is going to love that /s lol

Damn I'm jealous. I feel you on the chores this weekend. They can really get out of hand if you're busy all week.
Yeah, for about 5 years I supported my wife while she went to college full time. It was really, really hard, but worth it- now she's doing the same for me. :)
Now that this college semester is over, I have a bit of a break before summer classes start. So I'm trying to get as much done as I can before then, because once summer semester starts I'm gonna be super busy again.
It's awesome to hear you guys worked together so well so you can reach your goals! Enjoy that summer break and hopefully you both can get some time to relax soon!
Like @Ten I woke up at 4am too, but on purpose: I participated Run 5.30 with a friend. Then I went on with my day as usual, but sleepiness is really getting at me now (7pm, gmt+1)
This weekend I'm going to Arrogant Sour Festival, a big and delicious festival of sour and spontaneously fermented beers. I've been an happy patron since its first edition in 2014 and it grew big!

Got to work not too long ago, really like my job but I'm writing documentation for some stuff today so that's kind of balls but it needs to be done. Bought hardware for my dream HTPC setup this week and that's my weekend planned.

Good for you getting into a job that you like! Even with bs days like today it has to be awesome.
My day is going pretty well. I'm enjoying that I had a short week and I only have a couple more hours of counting down the clock.
Working from 7am till 7pm right now then am off until Monday night so I'm in that state of mind just ready to be home. Wife is out of town so I get to play video games and lay around all day Saturday and Sunday and not have to say a word.
Some new stuff came out in World of Warships so I will have a good weekend with that to do.
I've been dying for a video game day like that. I haven't had one in years. How is world of warships? I've always heard bad things about pay to win.
The Pay to Win is there in the form of some premium ships that are a little better that normal ships but it's nothing that individual skill doesn't overcome. The pay to win really comes into play in higher level ships where it is pretty much mandatory to buy a premium ship or premium time to earn more money as the service costs of the high level ships is high as hell and you end up losing money a lot of the time. But that can also be overcome by grinding for money in some of the lower level ships. I enjoy it so I'm not complaining. As far as F2P models go I think they have a pretty good one.
I'll have to check it out sometime. I always see ads for it that make me want to try it but I just was always scared away by the rumors.
It all comes down to impulse control which I admit I have trouble with. The game puts you in places where you really want to spend money but it's never a hard requirement. Even then I do spend money on it as it's a good game in my eyes that is being made better with every patch.
Pretty good so far, but. I have an essay do this Sunday and I haven't researched for it yet, so I'm a bit stressed about that.

Hey the best way to deal with that stress is to jump on that essay and kick it's ass. Be warned though I'm a hypocrite cause I'm struggling to get anything done at work.
I'm doing pretty well other than my obsession with the clock because it's Friday and I can't wait to go home. To be honest this comment kinda motivated me to knock more work out.

Been good so far, working until this evening. I've been listening to the new Kanye album on repeat (so good) and have a crawfish boil this weekend! This weekend should be filled with beer, good eats, and friends so I'm content!
I gave the new Kanye a listen. It really has to grow on me cause I went into it expecting another Life of Pablo. Cudi is always an awesome feature though.
Oh my goodness TLOP was such a different Kanye than what we've seen with Graduation or MBDTF, and I figured since he had his recent troubles with his own demons that this album was going to be new. He kept hyping the "beats from the dark place" for this album and I get what he means now. Definitely take a look at what his listening party was like last night - it was at the Grand Tetons.

I didn't know about the cudi album! It's cool to hear they got over that beef when Kanye was calling out Cudi on stage.
I need to give ye another go and try to listen to it when I'm not at work.
Yea man! He announced a while back that he was producing all these new albums and invited all the artists out to Jackson Hole to work with him, which is honestly super wholesome given his current standing in pop culture. The new Pusha T album and A$AP Rocky - TESTING album, both of which are true to the artists' styles.
I'd say middling tending to good. I had to start the annoying/boring process of finding and then buying a new car (not even a fun new car, a practical one). On the other hand I did that by bike and on my way home went and spent some time at my local cathedral. I'm not a religious person but it's 900 years old and an incredibly relaxing place to be.
Just about to cook up some beef donburi for dinner though, so that's good.
I love old churches. It's awesome if you ever see one being remodeled. It's so interesting when they start opening up the old wall and getting to see what's behind them.
Been listening to Ghost all day while working half day from home. Playing board games with friends tomorrow. Woo :D
Yo their new album just came out right? How is it?
It's a great album. It's a little different because the lead is Cardinal Copia. Not being a pope already he is more self centered, making a lot of the songs first person based, using I and me and whatnot. Which was a weird change for me for a little bit. Like no satan stuff on this album, it's based on the plague I think. Still fuckin great everything though.
Oh yeah, they released a new album today. Looking forward to have a listen!

What games are you going to be playing?
It's pouring rain here but I decided to do my commute (which is around 10km) on my bike anyways, so I spent the first couple hours of work being wet and cold! But I also had one last aeropress scoop of this Arabic coffee I buy sometimes from a persian grocery store near my work that is ground with cardamom and is really delicious left - I thought I finished it up yesterday!
It's friday, I'm having an apple tree with 3 types of apples being delivered today and I'm hoping to paint at least 3 walls of my kitchen this weekend, so I'm mostly just looking forward to work being over!
Your comment sounds so positive I feel like it's a pick me up! Props to you for being dedicated to riding even in the rain! It's supposed to start near me soon and rain all weekend, but I honestly can't wait for it. I love rainy weekends. That Apple tree sounds cool though I don't know much about them and didn't know you can have multiple kinds on one tree.
I pretty recently learned that apples of an accepted "strain" are never grown from seed, as apple seeds aren't genetically identical, and quite often if you plant say, a gala seed, you will end up with a crabapple tree, or some other apple tree with not particularly delicious (or even edible) apples.
so, since all apple trees are scions grafted onto rootstock, there's nothing stopping them from grafting multiple types onto one base, which seems like beyond cool biology to me - it was kind of expensive compared to a single apple type, but I've been fairly obsessed with the idea since learning about it, so treat yo'self I guess!
Thanks for apple seed lesson! I know they spend a lot of time to try to splice seeds so they come out the way they want. It's crazy to hear you can have bad luck and get a random kind of apple that you can't even eat. So it defiently sounds worth it to pay extra and get the type you want.
I somehow ended up staying up until 4 this morning so my day has just begun. I'm finishing my garden this afternoon and doing some laundry. The excitement never stops.

I appreciate you changing up the question a little bit. This might not be kind of answer you were looking for, but honestly just spending time with my girlfriend. We've been living together for 2 years now and things have only been getting better. Sorry it's kinda corny but getting home to spend time with her is the only thing I've been REALLY looking forward to.

No, that's great! I feel you. I'm going on a girl's weekend today, and i'm excited, but I was away from my husband last weekend too so we're both a little sad. So I have to really work on not wishing this weekend to go faster.
It sucks you guys are missing another weekend, but I hope you still have a good time! I know the struggle when it comes to trying to enjoy the moment instead of wishing it was over. The worst is when you're talking to your friends and keep thinking to yourself about how you wish they were there so you can make a certain inside joke or something.
I thought I was coming down with the flu earlier this week while I still had a bunch of meetings and work. Today I woke up definitely sick. I would have just called in sick, if I had already committed to going to a going-away party for a coworker. It's gonna be a long day ahead of me, on the bright side, I am most definitely staying cozy in my bed this weekend.

Just started summer classes. Thought they began today, they started yesterday. I misread the academic calendar.
For one class I'm comfortable off with the material, but the other moved insanely fast and is already 2 weeks ahead. I think I am going to drop the latter and just take it easy this Summer, focusing on 6 hours and working out. The class (linear programming) is already difficult as it is, so it also seems like a better idea to take it within a regular semester so I know I'll fully learn the material and then can apply it to a job when I graduate.
Overall not that big of a deal, might just have to graduate a little later but I'm still young. The university I attend isn't too expensive as well, so it's not a huge issue with money to take an extra semester. Maybe I'll have more fun this way being able to focus more on my hobbies this Summer.
Sounds like it's a good idea. Too many people drown themselves in school work and panic to try and swim their way out of it. I hope you enjoy your summer. I feel like it's too easy to lose time for hobbies.
I've actually loved all the responses and conversations the post caused. I thought I was just going to do this for today, but I didn't expect it to turn out so well. I completely agree with the sense of community you feel when on Tildes compared to reddit. If it keep growing this way I think I'm going to like it here. I just can't stand how reddit had become a mix between an echo chamber and a botfarm to try and mess with the public's opinions.
I'm hoping that's something that will change once the website grows a bit. They don't have the same type of small niche communities yet, but I think they plan on changing that as it grows.
I think I'm going to do these posts every couple days and see if they catch on. It might get a similar group coming back and we can start to see familiar names.

Today has gone better than the rest of my work week. I completed a couple of critical tasks at work, and it's Friday so email has slowed down some.
Listening to the ambient music album Albion by Juta Takahashi. It's a great stress reliever.
Never heard of them, but I listen to lofi and ambient all day when I'm working so I'll have to give them a try.
Well one of my wisdom teeth exploded today during breakfast, so that's a thing. Just scheduled a dentist appointment for Monday so here's hoping that my tooth doesn't start hurting before they can remove/fix it. I had a wisdom tooth go bad on me a couple years back and I was stuck out to sea for 5 weeks to just deal with it....so I'd rather not have anything even remotely close to that happen again.
What a way to spent your Friday off.

For a short week, this was a long week. Holiday on Monday, 3-day kaizen on Tue, Wed, and Thu, and today has been an attempt to catch up and wrap up before the weekend.
I'm really looking forward to getting home, lifting some weights, and putting this week behind me.
I really feel you with the long week. I was surprised when I realized it was Friday cause it still feels like were stuck on Wednesday.
Just got over a 24 hour stomach bug and return to work tonight. Hoping for a slower day today.
