This is how I've enjoyed the site as well. Activity first, then flip to Newest throughout the day.

Regarding the old threads, with a small but growing number of subscribers, I suspect many people will be looking at the older threads and adding their comments to the discussion. This will likely continue until the volume of new posts become overwhelming and new accounts will simply jump into what's current.

And those decisions need to be made in a transparent manner.

The downside is that it takes real people reviewing things and making decisions.

In one of the subreddits I moderate, we had someone join with a username of a well-known magazine related to the sub's topic. [Red Flag #1]

Every one of their submissions was to an article on their website. [Red Flag #2]

Although good conversations were had on the topics that were submitted and the user participated in the discussions, the subscribers constantly flagged the submissions as spam. [Red Flag #3]

As a result, the mod team set up a conversation with the magazine account holder. It became clear that that their actual intent was to drive traffic to their site and acquire new subscriptions - i.e. they were advertising.

Had our subscriber base not constantly flagged the posts as spam, we probably would have allowed the posts because the content was relevant and the account holder(s) were active community members providing solid advice. Because a large number of our community members saw it as spam though, we ultimately decided that they would either need to purchase ads on reddit or submit text posts to create discussions instead of linking back to their site.

In this case, how our community members felt about the content was more important than the content itself.

I'm really looking forward to getting home, lifting some weights, and putting this week behind me.

Agreed. I'd much prefer that we read the content before making a value judgement based on an arbitrary number.

I never got around to reading American Gods. Adding it to the summer reading list now. Thanks for the reminder.

I just finished Astrophysics for People in a Hurry by Neil deGrasse Tyson and started Norse Mythology by Neil Gaiman today. Back to back cosmology books. 10/10 would do again.

I'm on a similar path. I'm on week 8 of a 12 week plan to cut my body fat down. Once I hit my goal, I plan to increase my calorie intake slightly and continue to work out hard every week in an effort to put on some lean muscle.

I have fond memories of ASCII porn and people engaging in conversation with others online because it was novel and heralded an era of electronic communication. I didn't anticipate all the cat photos though.

I'm looking forward to seeing ~ grow and evolve.
