15-16 years ago, I was trying to start my personal blog. I wrote 2 articles every week and ran out for some 18 months. It was a tech blog.

I would read up on how to get more views on my articles. One tip that would often come up was to write something controversial. They said if you create controversy, it will get more views and comments.

The days of personal blogs are long gone, but this tip still works and many people have caught on. A lot of people crave to be popular. Internet gives you an easy way to get that 15 minutes of fame.

Given that a Tie doesn't really serve any purpose whatsoever, the sooner it was completely forgotten, the better.

In case of wireless speakers, the problem is already solved. This TV doesn't add anything new for that.

I love giant screens. I have a tiny room and use a 50" TV because that's what I could afford 4 years ago. I'm planning to upgrade to 65" in a couple of years. Larger TVs just have a different experience when you're watching a movie or playing a game on your console. It's truly immersive.

Also, if you're price conscious, beyond 75", projectors start to work out cheaper. All you need is a room you can darken while watching your content.

Exactly, their tvs are connected to the internet even today. And a box like this has to work offline, it has nothing to do with internet connection.

I can't wait for this AI frenzy to die down so that we can go back to just bitter arguments with other humans over nothing.

This probably doesn't work if you're on a tight budget, but I have a reverse strategy for budgeting. I don't budget my expenses, I budget my savings.

Every month, when I get my salary, I transfer out the part which I want to save/invest to a different account immediately. I'm then left with only the amount I can spend. Since I don't have more money, I can't overspend.

This approach does require a bit of discipline, especially if you use credit card for all your spends. You need to ensure that your credit card bill doesn't exceed the amount in your bank account.

This was a really good video.

I do, of course, still think that planned obsolescence is a thing, especially with globalization, since the biggest of companies don't have anywhere to expand to. This is also probably why we are seeing a shift to subscription based products more and more.

Another nuance which also often gets missed is that while we want things to be buy and forget, for companies, products are not sell and forget. If my 10 year old refrigerator breaks down, I expect to be able to repair it, meaning that the company needs to keep producing spare parts to support old products. For tech based products, it gets worse as companies now need to keep providing software and security updates. So while we think we are paying for the product, it usually also comes built in with a support service which lasts a few years. So the company keeps providing service against the initial one-time payment.

While my view hasn't suddenly changed to say that corporations are all saintly, this video definitely gave me a new perspective which I hadn't considered earlier.

I miss old Firefox browser where the addons were so powerful, they were pretty much apps on their own. The browser and every aspect of it was customizable. Addons like tabmixplus, AIOS, downthemall were really something. Now their just a shadow of their old selves.

And I miss the whole paradigm of customizability. So few programs offer a customizable interface these days. In the 2000s, you could really personalise a lot of applications to your tastes and liking. Now it's either you like it or you don't. Not a single aspect can be changed to suit your taste.
