Tildes is nice and much more civil, but if you're looking for a equal sided debate, this isn't the place

True, however look back at that old thread with the trump supporter. There were almost none except for him, but still it never divulged into a screaming match. It was a respectful discussion. That would be nearly impossible on reddit.

Seriously, no downvotes was the best decision Tildes ever made. Just try to have the wrong opinion on reddit, the hive will hiss at you, downvote you, and bully you for having a mind of your own. Here, I feel like I could say practically anything within reason and get all sorts of interesting discussion and no hate. This site really is one of the best places for discussion on the internet, especially compared to reddit and similar half-forums which are basically just every community flinging poop at each other. I think the reddit model just forces people to not want to think different. "Oh, I better not say that, I could lose internet points!" and etc just makes people want to be close minded, and will make them dislike the opposition for downvoting them.

Even if there's no harm in it... it doesn't matter? I'll refer to a classic Snowden quote

Nobody needs to justify why they "need" a right: the burden of justification falls on the one seeking to infringe upon the right. But even if they did, you can't give away the rights of others because they're not useful to you. More simply, the majority cannot vote away the natural rights of the minority. Arguing that you don't care about the right to privacy because you have nothing to hide is no different than saying you don't care about free speech because you have nothing to say.

This is the one I always object to. I genuinely believe anyone with even a base-line understanding of computers could install Linux. Basically, if you can install a piece of software onto your Windows PC, you can install Linux. It's the same thing, selecting a few options and clicking a few boxes.

Woah what? This is a surprise but a welcome one. Honestly if I think hard, it just makes Disney look worse in my eyes for going back on themselves when they either realized tossing him was bringing more heat than having him, or that they needed him. Either way though I really don't care, I'm just glad to see Gunn back on the movie.

Alright fair enough, but the fact that this is just a PR move to make themselves look better while other content like hate speech is perfectly okay on the website puts it in a different light. It's just a spineless, half assed move honestly. Reddit didn't care to ban them until they were getting heat, and suddenly they have to shield the community. Bullshit. If they wanted to ban them fine, but not like this.

Here's a possible suggestion: what if "blocking" on Tildes just means you don't receive notifications from that person and also they can't pm you?

Visual novels take more work than a light novel, manga, etc but they also allow you to be more free and open and let the player have a bit of fun at the helm. This can also allow you to get more in depth with your characters and show how they might behave in different situations without cutting into the canon of your story or having to do some sort of spin off or something of the likes. They're all decent mediums though and it's really up to you how you feel your story would be best.

Another thing to consider: do you have writing experience? Programming? Art? If none of the above, it may just be easier to stick to a more traditional format and gain some experience before delving head first into a complicated medium.

Fair enough, I've done so too on a few occasions. I actually once did it while speaking to Stallman himself... that was embarrassing.

As an aspiring FOSS dev, you have to understand that they don't do it for money, or praise, or whatever. They do it because they like giving to the community and building better software. They do it because they enjoy the freedom of using their software how they want, and they want others to enjoy this freedom with software they write. It doesn't make sense to charge when you're trying to give back. Donations, sure.

Oof man, I can't imagine not spending hours and hours of my life tweaking every little thing to my desires. Literally everything about my PC I've spent hours tweaking, crying, etc trying to get right. It's a custom built desktop, with Arch Linux installed, riced Awesome WM, riced SDDM... I even riced my bootloader. To each their own, I suppose.
