It looks like the original VA cast is returning aside from the main antagonist of the second arc, who from what I understand retired from voice acting.

Huh neat. I'll keep an eye on these. I'll probably do a rewatch some day and seeing some new content would be cool.

Well worth a watch if you've seen the show and are feeling nostalgic for it.

So it's just scenes straight from the show with a few scenes added? Not new animation or anything else? And they just got the original VAs to dub the new scenes? Or is it a complete re-dub?

That's certainly correct on the animation, I haven't looked into the dub but I expect that's also true if they could get everyone they needed. One important piece of context is that this is a...

One important piece of context is that this is a 2008/2009 movie compilation of a 2007 series. So it's not like there was any great need to redo the animation except where they wanted to make changes, mostly for runtime concerns in the first movie and extending the finale in the second.

I'm not sure what you mean by "new animation." There are a number of scenes in the movie that aren't original to the show. The final fight is totally different. Afaik the dub is a redub.

I mean that they didn't redo the old animations, they just added new ones (and apparently changed the final fight).

Oh, that I'm not sure of honestly. I've never watched the films. I've only ever watched the show dubbed, as I'm not a fan of subbed shows. I've only watched the final fight from the films.

The movies mainly served to remind me how much I adore the series, but I'm still absotively stoked to see this. I'll have to 3d print some a bunch of core drill necklaces to give away while I'm there

Having seen some anime premieres in theatres, they were much more fine than you seem to be worried about. If anything, it was nice to share the experience of watching a piece of media for the first time with a bunch of strangers. The theatre laughing at the same jokes as me actually elevated my experience!

This is one of the things I love most about the moviegoing experience that cannot be adequately replicated at home.
