What's a good website for sharing art and computer-generated images?
I was granted access to DALL-E today and I'm wondering what's a good place to collect and share silly computer-generated photos? I have quite a few places already that will do this, but none seem quite right:
- Twitter - It works, but I'm not sure I want to mix photo sharing with other stuff.
- Mastodon - My account is mostly inactive and I'm hardly following anyone I actually know, or who does much picture sharing.
- Facebook - I don't really want to spam the relatives.
- Google Photos - I use this for sharing personal photos with immediate family. I made an album for MidJourney but it isn't quite convenient enough.
- Tildes - no direct photo sharing here! I could link to an album, though.
I don't know if you use reddit, but I'm subbed to r/dalle2. I haven't used reddit's image hosting enough to know if it's any good though.
You might look into Behance or deviantART. There's mountains of AI generated art on both already. The general gist of these sites is simple - you create an account, upload and arrange your art portfolio, and there are ways to make money on it charging for access to some files or selling prints if that's what you want to do. DA in particular is 22 years old, their database is positively gargantuan.
I'm not sure what I want. But briefly looking at them on a phone, Behance keeps prompting me to install the app and DeviantArt keeps prompting me to register.
If you're doing this to showcase an artistic gallery, deviantArt is really the way to go IMO.
Otherwise, Twitter tbh :) There's a big DALL-E sharing community there.
There are federated versions of Instagram, if you're interested in going through all the set up just for that?
Pixelfed is the most popular one, and I made an account on metapixl since when I was interested pixelfed invites were closed
https://pixelfed.social
https://metapixl.com
Can I follow Pixelfed users from Mastodon and vice versa? What are some accounts that you find interesting?
Yes, you can. Pixelfed posts are just normal ActivityPub activities with attachments.
It looks like you can, although I haven't tried it out, so I can't say for certain.
I haven't really used either mastodon or pixelfed to be honest. I got the accounts set up in one of my "moods" and then remembered I don't participate in social media anyway... It's more the tech that excites me, not using said tech 😅
Regardless of whichever site you pick, I'd be interested in seeing your artwork here on Tildes!
Alternatively, I saw this really cool thing recently which you could use to host images in a matrix room. If you have a personal website for example, you could set up a
https://skybrian.com/gallery
and have any picture in that matrix room automatically populate on the /gallery pagePolygon lets you create NFTs for next to nothing, so I would say maybe OpenSea?
That's not the vibe I'm going for. (Also, OpenAI prohibits this for DALL-E images.)
Oh, DALL-E sounds cool, congrats on getting access.
