Seeing Garth Nix on the list made me remember how much I liked the old kingdom books. They were so deliciously weird. Going to give is newer series a try.

I appreciate their attempt to move forward. I joined as a voting member this year and have read 5/6 of the Best Novels but only 2 of the novellas, maybe 1 or 2 of the short stories, and 2 of the series, as well as none of the Lodestar nominees. So I'm looking forward to possibly getting a voters packet but also adding new things to read. And only the normal amount of drama.

Interesting to see Leckie's Translation State listed. I loved Ancillary Justice but was a bit let down with the rest of the series (enjoyable though). Read Fortuna and enjoyed it but didn't like it as much as the Ancillary trilogy. I've heard some good things about Translation State but have been hesitant to pick it up. This might be the signal I needed.

I really enjoyed it! It gets into the biology and psychology of the Presger Translators and what it means to be a person vs being human vs being considered neither (which the original series delved into as well) and the AI issues are a bit more sidelined but still fully present. It's neat to see the Radchaai having to wrap their brain around different pronouns.

It was a good audio listen as well IMO.
