Do you have a favorite publisher?

I've never really been one to look into publishers too much, with the extent of my interaction being that if I noticed they published some books I enjoyed I may go and look up what other authors they've published to see if I'd also enjoy their books.

Are there any publishers you actively follow or subscribe to any newsletters for, or engage with in any way?

I thought it might be fun seeing how my fellow Tilders interact with publishers.

I tend to check the No Starch Press site every few months for new releases of interest, as they're generally considered the gold standard publisher for tech education.

I have a few books from them and really enjoyed the ones I have! I hadn't thought to check for new material that they published for areas I'm interested in, but I also stopped "studying" these days after work to spend time with my family and read more for enjoyment.

I think I'll take a look over there and see if there are any that interest me.

I'm paying attention to this more now than I have in the past. I mostly read fantasy, and I've been starting to follow indie authors. So the only newsletters I'm signed up for currently belong to actual authors, but I would consider signing up for a publisher or imprint's newsletter if I thought it was relevant to me... and didn't cause a complete deluge in my inbox.

That being said, I've mostly become familiar with Del Rey (Random House), Tor (Macmillan), Bramble (Tor), Red Tower Books (Entangled). Red Tower Books is known for making books that are nice to look at (sprayed or stenciled edges, nice cover art). I'm sure there are others that I've read plenty of books from and just haven't noticed yet, given how consolidated the publishing industry has become.

Image Comics, hands down. Boom Studios has gotten a really good collection of work over its past couple decades, and Webtoon and Tapas are where the discovery game is played right now, but if you're into creator owned comics and want a wild swing and some weird premise, it's hard to go wrong with Image.

I check in on Open Letter Books every once in a while. They publish new English translations of world literature.

I don't generally notice publishers, but when I was a kid I used to read a lot of books that were either Tor or Baen. I think Baen published a lot of the David Weber/Ringo books I was reading a lot of at the time. IIRC they (Baen) still operate their "free library" at their website, with a selection of their books.
