It's funny how we have a hard time getting good competition between AMD and Intel. For years Intel was sitting on their ass soaking up their profits from market dominance. Now AMD's market cap is well above Intel's, they're making damn good chips and are the king of gaming. They make the SoCs in the PlayStation, Xbox, Steam Deck, and have the best desktop gaming CPU on the market - the 7800X3D. But they'd be pressed to do even better if Intel wasn't burning themselves alive. At least for mobile AMD and ARM manufacturers need to compete.

My current desktop has an i7 12700KF but I may upgrade this year and AMD's the only option for me.

I didn't realize AMD's market cap was so high! That's surprising, but it also seems to be mostly on top of AI hype (265 P/E) rather than fundamentals, since AMD is heavy into GPUs and Intel is...

Yours is the CPU that I bought a couple of years ago. Are you not getting the performance from it that you'd like? I'm truly hoping to ride it out for the next 5 years.

The X3D would be faster, but not monumentally so unless you're in to specific areas of gaming like mass scale simulations (Satisfactory, Factorio, and the like) which are much more memory bound than average games. X3D is monumental in those cases and it's why I switched to it, I hit the point where I was lagging in Satisfactory from my build scale and wanted to go bigger.

It still meets my needs. But I'm planning to sell my whole system and do an upgrade - mostly just for fun. I think I'll do the build once the 9000 series X3D chips are out, maybe 6 or 9 months...

RAD Game Tools - Intel Processor Instability Causing Oodle Decompression Failures. (They developed Bink Video, which was a very popular format, and then got bought up by Epic to make Unreal stuff)

I’ve been watching this with interest and it’s potentially very serious for Intel. The fact that larger datacenters are involed and there’s hinting at possible tips that this won’t be an easy fix...

I’ve been watching this with interest and it’s potentially very serious for Intel. The fact that larger datacenters are involed and there’s hinting at possible tips that this won’t be an easy fix could be a major screw up for them.

They’ve been cutting corners for awhile now to keep up and maybe the rumors are true and that’s about to cost them.
