I always like to punctuate piracy discussions with the futility of DRM. Even before DRM was a term, it has always been the case that copyright protections are ultimately a useless, fruitless, and expensive endeavor, with a heavy dose of anti-consumer practices.

These discussions have been had since the 80's, and despite that DRM has never worked and never will, it hasn't stopped the perpetual discussion and profitability of software/music/videos/books.

the 90s web was so much fun. The first thing I ever posted was a copy of Stunts -- it was about a meg or so and only took an hour. I don't even know why I posted it. It wasn't even a new game......

but yeah, DRM and all that is totally fruitless. I'm always amazed with how quickly these folks can turnaround a DRM stripping tool, a keygen, etc.
