What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
I've made a new song this week. I was playing around with electric guitar intervals and ended up with this idea for a hip-hop, kind of lo-fi but not really, 170 BPM track, driven by this guitar and some piano chords + melody.
It's not my best work but I like the vibe, even though the guitar gets annoying after a while. I tried to EQ and filter the shit out of it, but then it loses its punch, so I kept it as-is, and just trimmed out some resonant frequencies.
I'll submit it to my distributor anyway, hopefully it hits streaming services next week so at least I can compare my mixing and mastering with other similar songs.
I've been practicing some waterpainting lately...

Over the last year I started collecting a bunch of gear in earnest: Polyend Tracker Mini, Play +, Volcas (Bass, Beats, Keys, FM), a BD6 and TD3, and a Roland Aira T8 and J6. Last August I'd done most of the buying and been angry that I couldn't get everything together. I threw in a 1010 Bluebox, which is a killer mixer-cum-recording device for a steal with 12 mono/6 stereo reconfigurable channels which brought me so close to having something I can work with. I just didn't know how to use the gear and didn't have time for a while.
I saw a Polyend + dreadbox Medusa for sale at $800 and nabbed that (it retailed for $1400, out of my budget), and it wound up having it as the midi clock master of my bluebox, but it's another great piece of this whole puzzle. I spent a few hours getting the hang of the thing and it's definitely its own instrument, but actually plan to map some stuff out and try to record something in the next month since I know how everything I have works now.
This seems like it's less "creative," more "dude throwing money at gear," but I've had some ideas in this vein I've been trying to work on and everything clicked this week (unrelated to the Medusa), so it's all falling into place finally.
A little over a month ago, I started a sequel on an unpublished novel I finished last year. As of last night, I'm 27k words into this new manuscript, but I feel its some of the best shit I've ever written.
My birthday is at the end of next month, and I want my personal birthday present to myself to have 60k words done. I don't know if many people will want to read a novel that is like Taxi Driver during the coronavirus pandemic, but I am riding high off of momentum and hubris at the moment. If I can pull this off, I think this new book will be absolutely emotionally crushing. I want to take what I did in the first book, and punish my readers even more.
