What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
Hadn't stitched for a while but I got back around to it and finished an embroidery that I will make into a bookmark for myself

Pretty!!! How do you decide between outlining something and not? For example, the yellow into the middle is not, but the shading elements of a petal sometimes yes sometimes no. Do you try it in digital software first ? Follow strict pattern? Stitch it in and then see and edit?
Thank you :D
I actually thought the yellow looked a little bit strange, but I just follow the pattern. I did contemplate adding a couple of outlines (backstitching) but wasn't sure how - and if it'd even look good. Well I say I followed the pattern but I improvised with this one as I liked the flowers and not the rest, and I wanted to make a bookmark. So I moved things around a lot - and I also didn't include the french knots as I felt like those would look bad once it's been flattened enough times in the books.
Here's how the pattern looks so you can maybe see what I did. And here's the Facebook link for the pdf if you want the full thing.
She also has a lot of other free patterns of which I've stitched like a third!
Oh wow you moved a ton of things around! Cross stitching requires so much patience and attention to detail, so many color changes
I couldn't manage all but the easiest (two colours per block letter, two colours for borders) very beautiful thank you for sharing the pattern and links :) I'll just have to admire yours and others'
You can definitely get there! It took me months and months and at least a dozen projects to start doing these intermediate ones. I stick to that kind because the hard ones are absurdly annoying and not much fun to do (she always puts the difficulty level in the description on Etsy).
If you'd like, I can post an album with my progression. That way you can see how that my many first ones were what you're doing - and also would still like to see yours!!
I had started on a sci-fi novel but due to mental health issues I've had to put that down for a bit. I'm thinking about a lot of things to pick up again to get me through the day. Maybe that's writing, painting, coding or picking up an instrument. The indecisiveness is a very real obstacle to get over and then to keep things going too.
Pottery!!!
My partner signed us up for a pottery class and I have been absolutely loving it! It's my first time in a pottery class but I worked with my dad as a house painter for quite a while so knowing how to "feather in" or work with putty/spackle has translated much more than I expected. The wheel work is incredibly fun - everything from centering the clay to trimming the final shapes. I have 2 finished cups (one which was supposed to be a bowl that shrunk much more than I had expected so now it's a cup) and I couldn't be happier with them. It's like magic drinking out of your own thrown, trimmed, and glazed mug. After Thanksgiving I'll get to pick up the 5 plates I just finished up and I'm really excited to see how they turn out.
Everything has been a surprise. How easily the clay wriggles off center. How the trimmer jumps around on the clay. How the piece looks when it dries. The color the glaze turns post firing. How it feels to drink from. It's awesome and I learn so much with every session. We were able to get into the class/studio again for the new year and I'm so stoked to dive in deeper.
As a funny aside, the pottery class/studio is comprised of 95% women and has organically become what I would describe as a "women's space". I don't often frequent spaces like this and it's been really interesting to experience. Folks are more complimentary and supportive. The vibe is much quieter and more respectful. Conflicts are addressed directly and with community discussion. It's been really nice. It also makes me much more aware of why these spaces are important. And, how much more women search out "healthy or restorative" things (hobbies, food, health). I know those are broad strokes but it's been a big takeaway for me.
Those cups are really awesome!
