Speedpaint or speeddraw interest, anyone?

I love drawing and painting. But sometimes I am attacked by inertia or my self confidence deserts me. Or sometimes I want to scribble without worrying about the end result. Thus, SPEEDPAINT.

You grab whatever materials are around and race to get as much done as possible. I use a one hour time limit. You can copy a reference or make it up from your head. Technique is helpful but not required. This is a digital speed paint from a photo. I think I did it in mspaint. This is construction paper and crayola crayon.

If we occasionally had a thread for a speed art challenge, would anyone be interested? Not to compete against each other, but compete against yourself and show support for others willing to try.

It'd also be cool to have the occasional writing challenge and/or friendly writing contest, but that might fit better in a ~lit or ~lit.writing community if/when a group like that gets set up. (I know folks have discussed a ~lit group in other places.)

I feel ya on both not being a drawer or painter and loving the idea of something like an art prompts style thread with a time limiter on it. I don't know how many artists there are around here...

I don't know how many artists there are around here just yet, but I get the feeling that this is the sort of thing that becomes more possible the more active this place gets.

If someone does take longer, maybe they can still post, but have to report how long it was accurately?

The way I've seen it done is that it doesn't matter when you post it, as long as the piece was created some time during the dates of the challenge. And there is always someone who goes beyond the 60 minute time limit - they are always welcome to still post with a note of actual time spent.

So why put restrictions in the first place? To help break through the thoughts that are inhibiting you. To have the adrenaline high of working to a deadline without the stress of life failure if you botch it. To allow self forgiveness if you valiantly attempt it and the results suck. To deservedly be thrilled if you overcome and it is AWESOME. And, as always, to help one realistically judge if one has time for this sort of activity this week or if the next time would work better. :)

A weekly prompt a la CHoW or CoW (character/creature of the week) from conceptart.org's glory days would also be fun. Anyways, post it and let's get this ball rolling!

I'd like to contribute to organizing or participating in this, where can we discus potential prompts etc?

Right now we have the structure and regimentation of chocolate pudding. I'm sure we can eventually form some, but if you want to tap your way into the ring it's fine with me! Would you like to...

Would you like to start one at the same time as the speedart, or when the speed art is finished? @kalebo do you want to dibs?

I'm perhaps not the best person to ask; I like it all!
