What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
I've been teaching myself how to Cross-Stitch - but apparently I am not alone. I've hit a snag (not literally ;P ) in that I'm having trouble finding floss/thread where I live! I've done a few test patterns though and quite like the hobby.
I went all-in, too. Got myself the fancy light up magnifying glass to protect my wee little eyeballs from strain. Really handy!
I recently put together an ortholinear keyboard (OLKB Preonic) - my first keyboard kit. It's working well, but I'd like to figure out how to get it to spit out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ or (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻ with a key combo.
Thanks! I started with Clear Gaterons, but found the actuation pressure was way to light and swapped them with Aliaz silent/tactile switches. They're much closer to the Cherry Brown switches in my Filco but seem to be a little quieter.
Working with hardwoods, stains, and lacquers.
Started awhile back with some shelves, and now I've moved to full on cabinets and drawers etc (with a few 3d printed parts for the sliders).
I'm currently working on the doors using 3.5"x1" pieces of Oak. Two vertical pieces on either size, and then a bunch of shorted panels stacked horizontally through the center. Each pieces has notches cut through the inner parts (multiple cuts /w a table saw, I really need to invest in some dado blades or whatever) and then a smaller wedge-piece in inserted into the notches and glued to keep things together nice and tight. Currently I've got the inner section glued and it's solid, with the glue setting on the outer section, plus a couple coats of stain on the lot. Should be dry and ready for lacquer by later tomorrow.
Hopefully by the end I'll have cabinets, doors, and can swap out what's currently in the kitchen.
I've been playing around a lot with more pixel art, and have gotten a little bit better. This is helpful as I help out on an open-source game, TetraForce, with a couple visuals, as well as I'm doing the pixel art for another project called HOPEBORN, which is really testing my abilities.
HOPEBORN is a 3D game, but utilizes pixel art for textures, objects, and characters, so I have a lot of work ahead of me. I don't think a website has been set up for the project, but you can check out our project creator's Twitter, as he posts screenshots or quick clips occasionally.
I'm in between gigs right now, so I've got some time on my hands and my equipment is collecting dust. So, I started making a puppet show with my four year old. He's really into puppet shows, especially spurred by his interest in how Sesame Street is made. We watched a behind the scenes video one day for his "summer school" that we're running and he wanted to make a puppet show. So, I got out my camera gear and we recorded him riffing with one of his puppets. I edited it into three little minute long vignettes and it was good to just literally do anything while I wait for the market to kick back into gear a bit.
Plus, he absolutely loves them.
I'm working on getting set up for medium format photography. I managed to pick up a Kiev 88 camera that's in good condition. The new lens for my darkroom enlarger that will let me print medium format came in over the weekend.
Now I just need to have the negative carrier I designed 3D printed at my local library and I'll be ready to go!
