What creative projects have you been working on?
This topic is part of a series. It is meant to be a place for users to discuss creative projects they have been working on.
Projects can be personal, professional, physical, digital, or even just ideas.
If you have any creative projects that you have been working on or want to eventually work on, this is a place for discussing those.
Currently got two complementary projects going. One is a command line program to plant and raise virtual ASCII plants, inspired by a program called botany. Wanted to try and make my own version with a little 2D garden area. And I'm also attempting my first serious-ish electronics project, something like the Raspberry Pi Zero portable handheld terminals. Grabbed a bluetooth keyboard case off of eBay, found a collection of parts I could grab online to stitch together into a bulky, handheld device. Currently reading up on all the parts I picked so I don't have any surprises and sketching out how everything could fit together in Blender, but while it's decent for that I don't think I can actually design the enclosure in Blender. Anyone have any experience with making custom enclosures?
This sounds great! So you'd like, have a whole garden of the little plants? I'd love it :)
Of course, I'd just commit mass plant murder that way ...
I'm known as the guy with "strange" ideas in my friend group, and I've felt that people in the group don't really have the opportunity to properly assess the merits of what I'm saying because messenger isn't really the best place for explaining something in detail. Last week, I put together a 5 minute youtube video not to get a lot of views, but to express my views. It took nearly 30 hours to make it, and I had to spend many more hours editing the video because youtube kept flagging my video for copyright violations, but the whole experience was very fulfilling.
I plan on making more videos :)
If you don't mind, I'd like to watch the video.
As a fellow "strange ideas" guy, it is really inspiring to witness efforts for something people are passionate about.
Sure! I'll DM you. Please keep in mind it's a proof of concept to see if I have what it takes to make a video. What the video covers may be a little esoteric, especially if you haven't seen the movie in discussion.
I am trying to mark out some ideas for a musical album. Not sure where I want to take it at the moment, just playing around with some synths.
After reading aboutand then listening through multiple hours of "Bardcore" music last night, if you're inclined for such creations, I'd love to listen to them.
Haha I love bardcore, I was just listening to Hildegarde von Blingin's Youtube channel the other day. I've never tried to make a bardcore song before, I'm more inclined towards making orchestral, jazz and electronic music but maybe I'll give it a shot!
I decided to steer into ambient music, and have something of an album/mixtape of ambient and techno (I'm bad at combining the two) I may actually release. It's more an intellectual exercise than an artistic one, studying the boring bits of tracks I like/have been exposed to, such as timing, mixing, and length (Brian Eno's stuff tends to be short, at least for later works, as an example of the minutia I'm looking at)
It actually started with this image, when I was trying to emulate a Satellaview Legend of Zelda game. That image appears, IIRC, when you're downloading the game from the satellite (I'm not using a satellite, the service has been down for 20 years, but it's an emulated communication). The first track that "launched" this project I'm doing is here. Even though in the system it's all cheery, something about the sun setting behind the St. GIGA, having seen the picture without it's original context, that made it feel imposing.
I am currently trying to come up with what my October drawing month idea should be. I won't be participating in Inktober this year as far as actively using their prompts and using the tags. Luckily there are a lot of good alternatives in terms of prompts and themes for what to draw.
I'm personally gonna do my own thing and try to come up with 15 or so inked scenes. I'm still flip flopping on if I want to do 15 sequential ones or just a few scenes from a few stories. I only say the latter because uh coming up with story ideas is hard lol.
I've been trying to learn and get in to electronic art, using brass wire and LEDs and stuff to make aesthetically pleasing electronic decorations. So far I made an LED light up. It's progress.
