Not sure where to ask this - early 2000's email printing layout samples
Unless I'm missing something in my search queries, Google ain't coming up with anything. I'm trying to look for samples of printouts from emails (hosts are irrelevant) made in the early 2000's. It's for a novel project. While I have a vague idea of what kind of layout is needed, it's one thing to guess, and another to actually see it. Any leads?
You could check court cases from the period you want looking for emails as evidence.
Ideally, would this be done through PACER (Public Access to Court Electronic Records)?
Addendum 1 - Apparently, PACER isn't free access...
Nope, but RECAP is: https://www.courtlistener.com/recap/
Fantastic - love how it's a reverse anagram as well.
You want to see what printed emails circa early 2000s looked like? Am I understanding that correctly?
Bingo - that's the request, or just to point me in the right direction of where I could find samples online.
Look for old email clients, like Pine or Pegasus Mail. They still exist but were popular back then. The print firmware haven't really changed.
This will be a rabbit hole, but the approach I would probably take would be to learn how to set up an emulator with an operating system from that era and print some e-mails myself.
There are easy to use browser-based options for that, for example https://infinitemac.org/ .
I'm aware of VMs - I wasn't aware this was an option. Thanks for the tip.
Oh god that's fun.
I have some printouts of emails from 1997. Would those be useful for you?
Edit: I found a few from 2001, too.
Those would be useful, yes.
PM sent
If it helps, I have a PDF of a 1992 email printout from CompuServe. It's Bill Machrone's prizewinning "ZD Labs Vegetable Chili." Let me know via PM if you'd like a copy. (I've never made the chili but I'm told it's great.)
Okay I'm not interested in the print formatting but I'd love the recipe! š
So hey I uploaded it for anyone who is interested. https://imgur.com/a/prI0Gsk
Iām a little confused - what exactly are you looking for? Old emails? Or specifically printed old emails?
Private, commercial, or both?
Printed out old emails, specifically.
Got it. Yeah court records are a great idea. I briefly wondered if the Enron emails were ever available as printouts but it looks mainly digital. You might also be able to find something on Kaggle under ocr datasets
