Comment on Lefties of Tildes: what are some items where the left handed version is most necessary? in ~life

The worst thing was field hockey in gym class, where they never had a stick for me, but thank god the days of gym class are long over. I use either hand for my computer mouse, which I think has helped with ambidexterity. (One day I discovered I was unthinkingly using a screwdriver with my right hand.)
My advice is not to make it a big deal. When I was little and learning to knit in a group, the teachers said, "Oh, left-handed, you're going to find this VERY DIFFICULT. We just don't know how to teach you!" I learned just fine later on and I knit like anyone else. Knitted like a fiend for decades, in fact.

Dovey They definitely do not try to be clean! Comment on Lemonade stands in ~life
Dovey I wonder if enough people are carrying cash to make this idea work? I carry cash and change but I know a lot of people just don't bother any more. Do kids carry change nowadays? Funny, Facebook...I wonder if enough people are carrying cash to make this idea work? I carry cash and change but I know a lot of people just don't bother any more. Do kids carry change nowadays?
Funny, Facebook showed me a memory today from 2012, when I encountered a lemonade stand. Those kids also had cookies available, with a combo deal for sixty cents. I was their first customer and I don't know if they got many more.
Somehow the idea of a lemonade stand is charming and classic, but the thought of kids selling stuff out of a cooler at the park feels a little sketchy to me.

Got through a couple of pages this morning but had to look up swidden, corvee and polity. I think once I get my brain in gear I'll enjoy learning about this. Why on earth did people form cities and states when it's so much easier, healthier and more enjoyable to be a hunter/gatherer? Maybe I'll soon know more.

I got my flu shot last week in Ontario and I was curious to see whether we've ditched the Yamagata strain. This is from the Public Health Ontario website: "Canada’s National Advisory Committee on Immunization (NACI) also indicated support for the removal of the B/Yamagata strain from influenza vaccines and a transition to trivalent vaccines, as soon as practically possible. Recognizing significant logistical and regulatory challenges with transitioning from quadrivalent to trivalent vaccines, NACI anticipates a gradual transition, with variability in vaccine supply across countries. Quadrivalent vaccines will continue to be supplied to public health programs in Canada for the 2024-25 influenza season and more detailed guidance
regarding the change from quadrivalent to trivalent vaccines will be included as part of the 2025-26
NACI seasonal influenza statement."
So we're lagging behind as always. Maybe next year.
