Hello everyone,
I stumbled upon this citizen's initiative on mastodon, and I've been meaning to ask the opinion of other people on this matter. Do you believe the EU is doing enough to protect its country's natural resources? Would the creation of a european environment authority actually be effective or would other ways like providing local communities with the appropriate tools have a bigger impact? Do you think this would overcomplicate your local official's paperwork?
No country or organization on this entire planet is doing enough to protect natural resources because it is simply not profitable. The EU is better than some in this regard, but that is also...

I struggle to understand how this authority would help. The EU already has a pretty big problem with beauracracy, which in parts is inherent to the design of the union and the fact that it is doing its best with so many different member states, some of which are pulling into wildly different directions. I don't see how adding another authority in the matter would help, because it won't get any real authority anyway.
While I agree they aren't doing a lot, they are doing more than nearly anywhere else. I work in creating tools for biodiversity assessments and to be honest the only companies we hear from...

I work in creating tools for biodiversity assessments and to be honest the only companies we hear from regularly are those working in European markets - even if the majority of their supply chain is in non-European places.
It's never going to pass, because at least some countries in the EU will not be willing to give up any legal sovereignty over the issue, and one veto is all that it takes to doom this proposal.

This is probably off-topic, but how do environmental protections in the EU work currently? I personally have no horse in this race as I am not an EU citizen, but I do work for an environmental...
