As a Canadian, this is interesting. I do think a very strong NAFTA (or is it USMCA now?) is not only necessary but vital to all 3 countries. Given the spacial proximity to each other, it's a huge benefit and definitely, at least in my opinion, much better than relying on overseas for production.
But I'm also bias, because there's no question that the US is a huge reason Canada is so successful to begin with. We rely on the trade, and quite frankly the military protection as well.
I would be interested to see numbers regarding financial and carbon cost for trains vs. cargo ships, but in general I'm certainly interested in having fewer travel miles on everything the US...

they aren’t a geopolitical adversary to us
time zones are much more conducive to collaboration
language and cultural barriers are less prohibitive
pricing is highly competitive
labor is low cost
and more!
Mexico would be a great manufacturing partner to the United States and I only foresee growth for them in this category from here on out!
