I've got multiple phones in my family and I back them up periodically to a NAS and want to just browse the entire combined collection. There's no good way to do this.

I'm currently using Prism which is ok but has a lot of issues itself as well.

I use OneDrive because Microsoft offers 1TB for $80/year (Canada) with Microsoft 365 personal.

I use rclone weekly with the encryption option to backup my entire local ZFS NAS for disaster recovery. This is all done through Proxmox on a homelab rack.

Works very well, no complaints. Only thing is I have to manually copy the photos over from the phones once in awhile.

In the interim between device backups, the phones backup to various Google Photos accounts (free), and OneDrive photos (part of the 1TB).

Thanks for sharing, that's definitely a pretty large subscription list! I also have Namecheap domains so I get it. In my case I pointed one of them to my home (homelab server) with DDNS so I have no hosting or otherwise fees (I run Proxmox at home). Saves a bit of money although it costs time for me to maintain it all (as a hobby). But it also means I have free SSL certs for all my internal stuff, which is cool.

The sub I dislike the most is Amazon Prime. Their Prime Video is mediocre at best, and for shipping here in Canada any order >$35 qualifies for free shipping anyways, and half the time it's free 2-day shipping, and about 1/4 of the time it's free 1-day shipping. So I really never see the value in it, especially since Amazon has become an AliExpress knock-off with crappy goods from China. I miss the old Amazon. /rant

By having a child, you're contributing to the root cause and biggest cause of why that kid will probably die in a Mad-Max world.

I'm sorry but you absolutely cannot know that or make that prediction. Attempting to blame parents for having children, and speaking with authority that the Earth will become inhabitable during their lifetime is not only anti-science, it's borderline insane.

You do not know what the future holds, nobody does. Birth rates around the world continue to decline, and the population will decline regardless of whether some people in developed countries have children or not.

I see this thought a lot online, mostly from Gen Z. I would mention that Gen Z is not the last, the current generation is Generation Alpha.

The main thing to remember is that people continue to have children regardless of your beliefs about the future, and while I know climate change sounds like doom & gloom, it's important to put it into context. Things have been far more grim in the past. We actually live in a time of relative stability and peace, believe it or not.

Can you imagine living through the black death, which is estimated to have killed 50% of the population? What about the Great Famine in Ireland? Or world war 2? People still had children even in these very bleak circumstances because even when everything looks bad, there is hope.

I would also urge you to watch what youth in the 1960s thought the future would be like. It's incredibly bleak, and it did not turn out like that.

Climate change is a real challenge to humanity, but I think it's one our youth can overcome. There are many legitimate reasons not to have children (including just not wanting them), but feeling like humanity is doomed might lead to regret when, in 50 years, it turns out it isn't.

I love them both despite the fact that both are objectively bad.

I have nostalgia for them because I saw them in theatre with my friends in high school. There wasn't a lot of SciFi at the time so we'd take what we could get.

I honestly don't want one. I feel like the draw of TLoU was the story, which was meticulously arranged to give an amazing (and controlled) experience.

I would argue the same for the Uncharted series, and to a lesser extend the new Tomb Raider series.

In my opinion, games like these don't benefit or need multiplayer because it doesn't fit the story or playstyle the game designers wanted from the beginning, and the feel of the game.

If I wanted a "TLoU-like" multiplayer I'd play The Division (which I played a lot) or something designed specifically for multiplayer.

I run a homelab with a half rack and a lot of R710s (proxmox).

I only have 1 open port and nothing in the DMZ. My router is pfSense running in a VM on proxmox and the open port is OpenVPN.

Whatever I want to access, whether it's the IP cams, homeassistant, Plex, sonarr/radarr whatever I just VPN in first, then access the LAN by hostname or IP directly.

So basically my recommendation is: do not port forward, do not DMZ. For video game consoles use NAT alias and sticky port to gain "NAT type 2" or equivalent, the rest use a VPN that's it.

I'm going to disagree here just a bit.

At no point in any ban, be it here or reddit, have I ever not known, requiring just a modicum of introspection, why I was banned.

While true, I was banned from from a subreddit about a certain stock because I implied it was trading at unrealistic values. This was not against any rules (I was not mean about it, and I provided evidence), but the unwritten "rule" was that you basically can't say anything negative, ever.

So yes, on reflection I suppose I "knew" why I was banned, but obviously knowing doesn't help the fact that it's a terrible reason.

In all my years of moderation, no appeal to any ban has resulted in the user being unbanned or led to useful conversation about their ban. It's always a fruitless endeavor to either attempt to explain the ban to someone that is either incapable of viewing their behavior from a different lens or is playing willfully ignorant to waste time.

As a mod on a particular big sub (>2M members), we do sometimes unban users who send a mod message to us about the mistake they made (usually involving accident rule breaking), or at a minimum convert it to a temporary ban. So there is some action sometimes from the discourse, at least for our mod team.

You've basically listed all of my favourite horror movies, so I guess I'm going to say we may have similar tastes. As such, I'll list a few more I love just in case they also fit your style:

    • Prey (the new entry in the Predator series on Disney+). It's sci-fi / light horror / action, and it is excellent. You don't need to have watched any of the others
    • Cloverfield and 10 Cloverfield Lane, both excellent, both sci-fi / light horror
    • Pitch Black, this is just a classic and it's very good
    • Sphere, more psychological thriller than horror
    • Final Destination, this is old but if you liked Scream 1 you will likely like this as well
    • Deep Blue Sea and The Meg if you want underwater "horror" (more like Jaws)

If you end up watching any and liking them, let me know!
