While I understand the point of this post for the Everyman, I immediately think of two things:

    1. I want to support the USPS if I can. As it is a service I believe in (even though I know the postmaster general has been messing with things lately). Even if it means costing me a little bit more.

    2. I would prefer to limit my usage of Amazon/other mega corps as much as is reasonably possible.

I understand the humor of the post, but I feel like I couldn't get into doing this myself.

I agree with you, and honestly this post kind of made me angry. Yeah, sure, pay practically nothing and get some garbage sent to your house. Buy a packet of ramen that still costs 50% more than the store and an onion that costs 200% more. Then complain when the price of your prime membership goes up again. After all, what is the membership if not pre-paying for shipping? When Amazon inevitably causes the post office to be disbanded, I’m sure that it’s not going to be a disadvantage to anyone.

Additionally, sending a card/letter gives me an opportunity to be personal. None of the random junk items will have any actual meaning to the people I care about, and most will probably prefer not to get those items instead. Hand-writing a letter or card actually takes time and effort from me, which is worth more than the cost of the stamp imo.

I agree with you, I also want to note that half that list at least is unavailable because I don't have Amazon Fresh or whatever equivalent their grocery delivery is. So I can't buy a single lime or onion or Kool aid packet even if I click through from the website.

My family doesn't want 250 characters on a packing slip anyway so I'm saved from this idea.

As of 2025, a stamp for a letter costs $0.78 in the United States. Amazon Prime sells items for less than that... with free shipping! Why send a postcard when you can send actual stuff?
