Yeah, I thought it was surprisingly cute. Normally reenactments ruin documentaries for me, but these ones were so well acted, and done with just enough of a self-aware/satirical edge to them that they actually enhanced the experience tremendously.

And I have always wondered why they were called "Jamaican" patties here in Canada, so the whole thing was interesting to learn about too. Bureaucracy can be pretty silly sometimes.

p.s. "Jamaican" patties are awesome, and I highly recommend anyone who hasn't had one before seek them out to give them a try. I have half a box of Patty King sitting in my freezer at this very moment... the other half having already been eaten by me and my family. The frozen kind are not nearly as good as the freshly baked, but I unfortunately don't live anywhere near a Jamaican bakery/restaurant anymore, so these days I have to make do with the frozen kind whenever I get a craving for one. :(

Just a question of what I'll have for dinner, since I'll grab a patty for lunch and pick up either oxtails or jerk chicken for this evening (we meal prep the rest of the week, my Mondays are my dine out day during the week).

Damn, now you're making me really jealous. I don't live nearby any place that has good jerk chicken, oxtail, or goat curry anymore. Jamaican restaurants were everywhere in downtown Toronto, and even all over Mississauga (just outside T-dot, where I grew up), but not out here in the sticks of Ontario. :(

            Not for @cfabbro

I picked up a patty and some of their "signature" wings for lunch. The former was delicious, as always, the latter I can describe as a dry jerk seasoning sprinkled on wings. Not bad, don't know if I'd order it again. Dinner tonight will be... dramatic pause ...both ox tails and jerk chicken! Because they had a mix plate where I could get a half order of each. Wife texted (she was out having her nails done) just in time to get in on her own small order of jerk chicken and had her first taste of a patty today and I got to see that wonderful wide-eyed expression on her face when she tries something new and loves it. Hilariously, I was telling her about the patty documentary and she didn't know what a patty was so I handed her the bag, she looked in it, and the first thing she said was "Looks like a turnover." Afterward I explained that's what the reenactment woman said as well and laughter was had.

p.s. For the wife you should have responded, "We don't serve turnovers here, and we never will!"

Heh. That's cool. It's a bit hard to justify a trip all the way to downtown from where I'm living now just for a Patty Festival, but it's also Caribana this weekend too... so I might be able to convince the fam' or some friends to make a trip with me to Exhibition Place for the Grande Parade on the 5th, and hit up Patty Fest afterwards. It'll all depend on what happens at the vet tomorrow with my dog though, since I'm pretty sure he broke his foot yesterday, and he may need surgery to fix it... in which case I probably won't be going anywhere for a while. :(

Thanks for the heads up though!

Well most importantly I hope your pup is okay, it's something minor like a sprain and he just needs to relax and be babied for a bit. If you do end up going, ping me and let me know what it was...

If you do end up going, ping me and let me know what it was all like. Caribana looks fun, Grand Parade a sensory overload, and Patty Festival the best way to nourish oneself during the adventures.

He's like a bull in a china shop with it on too, so I don't like it very much either since he is constantly bashing into everything with it, including me. :P
