I live in a relatively small, mostly rural, "unincorporated community", and so the restaurant options here are a bit grim. But surprisingly a new poke bowl place recently opened up here, so we decided to give it at try today for lunch. The fish and veg were incredibly fresh, the portions were generous for the price, and it was absolutely delicious! I'm genuinely just so damn happy that we finally have such a great, affordable, healthy option when eating out that I had to share. :)

We also met the owner, and it turns out he's the son of the former owner of the Chinese food takeaway place that was there before it. I guess he wasn't content to just keep running the same place as his father, and I for one am glad for that since TBH their Chinese food was pretty mediocre. I just hope this community is ready for something as "exotic" as a poke bowl though, so the new place actually sticks around. IMO it would be a travesty if it didn't.

By suggestion of @cfabbro, I made a veggie spinach lasagna last weekend. It turned out ok! I messed it up quite a bit due to a variety of mistakes, I kinda want to try again some time....

Even with all the mistakes, it still looked pretty damn good, especially for your first time ever making it. Did you end up serving that on the date, or go with something else?

Ha, yes we did end up eating it, with extra cream because it was pretty dry. It was alright, honestly!

Nice. And if I was your date, it would be knowing the thought and effort you put in that counted most anyways. :)
