I had an absolutely amazing biscuit from a local cafe yesterday. It contained butter, an egg, cheddar cheese, and one quarter avocado. And it ended up being less than the cost of their avocado toast.

It's a Breakfast Burrito for lunch almost every day these days. I found a good actual-burrito sized tortilla's from a local ethnic grocer's (it's actually called "Ethnic Grocery Store"), so I've been pretty happy making actual burritos.

In a good hot pan, sauté whatever veggies - I usually do a couple of mushrooms and a shallot. I usually put the tortilla in the pan on top of the veggies, so that it softens a bit. Leave that for a minute or so, then put it on a plate. Get the veggies nice and gold, then add 2 or 3 eggs and scramble them up. In the tortilla put a bit of cheese and salsa, then add the eggs and wrap it. If you don't know how to wrap a burrito, go to a burrito place and buy a burrito, wand watch carefully. You can repeat the "go to a burrito place and buy a burrito" as many times as necessary to learn.

I heard the other day some people boil corn in sugar water. Seems strange to me, not sure it needs it.

    I made kare raisu, here's a bowl

It was fun to do, I made a jambalaya a few years ago, but have never done anything with roux as a thickener, so it was kinda scary, but worked out in the end. It was also an excuse to eat some shortgrain rice. I used pretty much a whole jar of Badia Jamaican curry in it, because I'd planned for it, instead of one or another available Japanese curry blends, and it came out mostly okay, but a little bland. I increased the roux, but not the broth, and used Osem consomme instead of broth (can't use dashi, my mom's reaction to fish is a bit unpredictable), so there are two changes I would immediately make. Next time I'm using a B&J box I bought to see how that compares.

On a side note, I almost bought a fresh durian while I was at 99 Ranch. I had to resist the urge which was helped by the fact that 1: They're huge, 2: They smell really strongly, 3: I'd be the only one eating it, and 4: It would've cost me $55. I love the smell and taste of durian, and managed to acquire the taste thanks to some candies my dad recommended, but couldn't justify pulling the trigger on the real deal.
