Wow. I'm not sure what else to say really. I'm unsurprised that people look for an advantage, but I'm surprised at where the advantage came from.
That was a fascinating window into a field I know little about - I feel like I've learned something today!
If you're curious about the profession, you should check out the documentary Somm. It offers a really unique glimpse into the lives of a bunch of people trying to become Master Sommeliers. It's absolutely insane how much effort it takes for them to pass the exam... which is honestly why this cheating scandal is not surprising in the least.
Excellent, I'll check that out, thank you.
This is insane. I can't imagine wanting to take so many exams on something that feels so abstract. I guess some people are passionate enough—or, more likely, have enough financial incentive in their jobs to pursue it—but it seems like a whole lot. I guess you do these things for 5 star service though.
