Seems really confusing to refer to a Freestyle game as "classical" because of the time control...
What else would you call it? Classical is the name of the time control. I feel like the general name would be (name of variant) + (name of time control).
Sure, that sounds fine. What's the no-variant name?
Part of the problem was I didn't know Freestyle was a variant name, and it was specified in the name of the tournament, not next to the description of the game. And part is that the particular name of the time control also sounds like a way to say "no variants" (though I did know what it meant).
"Freestyle chess" is the same as chess960 and Fischer Random Chess. chess960 is what people usually call it to avoid mentioning its creator Bobby Fischer. That's the first time I've seen it called "Freestyle", I guess I'm just misinformed.
Yeah, I had heard of 960. Apparently this event coined the new name.
