Virtual tabletop with emphasis on story
Hey, all. First actual post here!
In another post on the site (having trouble finding it at the moment, alpha is alpha), someone mentioned a virtual tabletop that was more asynchronous and focused on storytelling rather than battlemaps like roll20. Does anyone happen to know what it is? I'd definitely like to explore something like that for starting a game for busy folks, and also because my interests in tabletop gaming are definitely more focused on the story rather than combat (I'm a spade / heart rather than a club). Thanks!
edited to clarify: It was definitely not Tabletop Simulator, it was something relatively new, so not e.g. Maptools.
I found it! After digging through posts with the "rpg" and "dnd" tags, I managed to find this comment by /u/Tsubasa which is what I was thinking of.
Searching comments would be really helpful. But, as I said in my OP, alpha is alpha and I understand that.
Wow, been a long time since I posted that! I haven't been keeping up with RoleGate development, but the last time I used it it was very solid and can only have got better. I wouldn't quite call it a virtual tabletop, but it's very good for TTRPG-style role-playing.
You're right, looking into it, it's not actually a virtual tabletop. It's definitely closer to something I would want, though, so thank you for mentioning it regardless. :)
I don't know what specific thing you are referring to, but you might be interested in Tabletop Simulator. It's basically exactly what it sounds like. There is optional automation to help keep track of turns and things like that, but it's essentially laissez-faire by default.
There are also a lot of implementations of popular board games on the Steam Workshop to play around with, so if you have friends, you will basically always have something to play with them even if you don't want to role-play.
It was definitely not Tabletop Sim, it was a specific, dedicated website. I'll update my OP to clarify. Thank you!
