So, is anyone making use of the 25% off Epic Games coupon/mega sale?
I have picked up Dead Island 2, which was already 20% off, Kingdoms of Amalur: Rereckoning. I'm thinking about getting Killing Floor 2, Observer System Redux and Dead Space 2 as well. Anyone else?
Epic makes it really hard for me to want to give them any money. This has nothing to do with all the big anti-Epic hullaballoo from previous years, mind. The main things keeping me thrifty there are two: A. their app somehow still blows chunks after having years of opportunities for improvements, and B. I have over 200 free games on there already without spending a dime, so many that I can't help but feel like all I need to do is wait a bit longer and I'll get a cool game that I would have paid a crapload for if I hadn't waited.
I'm the same. I mainly only keep the launcher around on my PC for the free games otherwise I buy everything on Steam. Like you, it is not because of the anti-consumer stuff but merely because I have 350+ games on Steam and prefer having most/all of my games in one place.
In their favor, I would say that as far as the various platforms go, I would at least consider Epic's store to be more appealing than the Xbox app on Windows. Epic has the benefit of letting me choose installation locations and copy my saved games to Steam if needed, while MS locks that down tight. Plus games from the Epic store can be installed on my Steam Deck, which MS still doesn't have allowance for.
So yeah, while it wasn't part of the original question, ranking the ones I use I'd say Steam > GoG Galaxy > Epic > everything else > Xbox App
I use Playnite as a launcher to keep everything in one place. I hate having a separate launcher for every other game. It's super annoying.
Playnite is great but it doesn’t stop the need to open a launcher to update or boot a game. I have all my launchers set to not open on startup so I’ve found that playnite serves as a catalog rather than a replacement launcher.
That's very true. I let all that shit run in the background.
Yeah for sure! I grabbed Returnal and a bunch of indies -- Journey, Paradise Killer, Call of the Sea, Hardspace Shipbreaker, A Short Hike, etc. It's times like this that I'm disappointed that Epic doesn't have a larger library of independent games or a better tagging system (to help with discoverability), because their prices can't be beat.
Nice! I should check some of those out. I feel the same way about horror games. They don't havew a ton, and finding them isn't always easy outside of major titles.
If you're a horror fan, both Returnal and Call of the Sea, while not outright horror, have great horror elements. Call of the Sea with its nods to Lovecraft, and Returnal with its incredibly unsettling atmosphere and a surprisingly scary, elegantly simple monster that haunts you throughout much of the game.
Thanks! Ill check those out!
I find the launcher clumsy. Like, when I close the game and moved on to my next task, why do you have the need to pull up the launcher to the foreground?
I didn't even know this was going on. Thanks I'll check it out.
