WoW Classic Hardcore is the first time I've had fun with WoW in a long time

I've been out of the game for years. I left midway through Legion, early into BfA, and then finally SLs burnt out any lingering love I had for the world and its lore. Apparently DF is better, but it's not a world that interests me anymore. Alternatively, Classic was neat, but it's a solved game and mostly a time capsule.

So I'm surprised how much I look forward to playing classic hardcore when my daughter goes to sleep and I have a bit of time to myself. I'm never bored; even boring walks might have stealthed panthers or stuff, so I have to pay my full attention. Whenever a bag drops, or I get an upgrade, it's the best feeling in the world. Leaving a kobold cave alive is such a rush. Watching your hearthstone finish casting in the middle of an enemy camp and letting out that breath that you're holding is incredible.

It absolutely sucks when you die, but then it also makes me more likely to try out classes and races that I usually steered away from, because why not?

Is anyone else on the same boat, or looking forward to the official servers?

But i agree with you that hardcore mode really does bring new and exciting energy to games you have played for many many hours already.

Did this in D4 and suffered a similar fate. Also made the same decision related to hardcore and online. Feels bad man

I've not been about to get back into that game even though it was a huge part of my life for a couple years. Played and raided during vanilla then again for WOTLK. I played in legion a bit, but mostly amassed over a million gold just playing the auction house. The good I raised with in wrath (whom there were 2-3 from vanilla). Would occasionally bring me along in legion. But I just couldn't ever really enjoy playing it anymore.

Villages of murlocs at lower levels is on that same tier of gratification as leaving kobold caves alive. The really old bubble hearth macro might have more application than novelty and laughs in hardcore.

I like the fact that Mak’Gora is also being included for duels. Overall, very interested to check this out.

I've had some urges to start during Classic again to scratch that itch. I've quit during WotLK after the implementation of LFG. I felt the social aspect of the game was the fabric on which the game was built. Not seeing the effort being put into reaching out felt alien to me and quickly drained the epic fantasy adventure atmosphere I held onto.

After I saw that Classic was being steamrolled by optimized builds and strategies I knew it wasn't what it used to be and decided then and there I'd be looking back at it with rose-tinted goggles for the rest of my life and that's fine.

While hardcore seems to be a nice addition I feel with the quality of mods and quest guidance systems it will never bring back that magic I felt when I was a teenager. It doesn't have to. I'm glad it sparks some joy for people who are looking to scratch that urge though.
