Game: Immortals Fenyx Rising - Gold Edition
Store & Platform: Steam
Discount: 90% off
End Date: 13 January 2024
Reviews: 🟩 Mostly Positive (70% of ~1,727)
Opencritic: Strong (79 average, 78% recommended)
Steam Deck: 🟨 Playable
ProtonDB: 🟨 Gold
HowLongToBeat: 25 Hours (Main Story) / 61.5 Hours (Completionist)
General Warnings:
This launches through Steam using Ubisoft Connect and links the game to your Ubisoft Connect account. While this is "fine" right now, Ubisoft does not regularly keep their launcher for their old games on Steam up to date, so in the future the game might require some tinkering to get running or might stop working altogether.
Ubisoft generally handles DLC poorly on Steam, and also generally prices the DLC much higher than their complete editions. Buying the base edition of the game and getting the DLC later is not recommended (as you can see with this sale, the Season Pass currently costs more than the Gold Edition of the game, which already includes the entire Season Pass).
Recommendation:
If I had to start this off with two big caveats, why am I even recommending it?
Because the game is good! It's not great by any means, but $10 USD is an incredibly solid deal.
The game follows the Ubisoft open-world formula and is often referred to as off-brand Breath of the Wild. I realize this is gaming heresy, but I actually enjoyed Immortals much MORE than Breath of the Wild.
I played it on my Deck and got about 60 hours out of it (I only played the main game, none of the DLC). Pretty early on I stopped paying attention to the story and just used the map as a big checklist while I listened to my own music or audiobooks.
The big open world is neat, with lots of different areas, and movement in the game feels great, especially after you level up your character and get more powerful. It's got a good mix of platforming, puzzles, and combat.
Idk I would argue it's pretty great. It is gorgeous, it's puzzles are really fun, and the combat is good too.
I'm currently still on vacation (sitting in my grandparents place in Taiwan rn!) But wanted to leave this for a reminder to myself:
Call of Cthulhu book bundle:
https://www.humblebundle.com/books/call-cthulhu-chaosium-inc-books
Looks like a good way to get started in Call of Cthulhu, I really like the system but I feel like I'm not clever enough to write adventures for DMing so this one might be pretty good for that!
Will be back soon to fill this and subsequent threads!

Recommendation:
I can't actually personally recommend this. It gave me motion sickness and I had to stop playing. I know a lot of other people love it, however, and this is a historical low price for the game.
If anyone else who has played it wants to chime in about the game, please do!
Wooohoooo I'm back from vacation and I got an email for one of the best bundles this year!!! (because the year just started lol

AGDQ 2024 is right around the corner, and these games are gonna be on it apparently. One of my favorite games of all time (celeste) is here, and Borderlands 2 is incredible too.
This is a legitimately great bundle! Solid entries and a good price for them.

Oh oops yeah I forgot to mention that, I think it defaults to $25 ugh.
Looking forwards to GDQ! Tbh I always miss watching it live but I try to donate every year! It's always incredible what they do every year.
