Hey folks!
I made another video essay. This one took a lot longer for a number reasons, but it's finally done and that's what matters.
Wolfenstein The New Order is one of my favourite video games ever, and one that hits the spot between being a movie and being a video game like no other in my opinion. Too often games err into one direction or the other too much. Unfortunately the sequel to it,
The New Colossus, makes exactly that mistake and it's been bugging me for years ever since I played it when it released. It was an interesting playthrough though for me, because my opinion of the sequel was much worse originally then when I replayed it. But that's fair, I grew a lot as a person since 2017. One could say I grew up.
Excited to hear what ya think and thank you so much for giving it a watch!

I just played this for the first time a month or so ago and I found it incredibly disjointed. The gameplay was alright, the story was a mess. I did like the major thing that happens halfway through that gets you an "upgrade" (not sure if we should discuss spoilers or not) but that was about the only standout part of the whole game.
I really enjoyed TNO and TOB back when I played them, but TNC just felt rushed and missing so much potential
Edit to add, perfect example, the KKK seemed like it was going to be a much bigger part of the game from the trailers, and it ends up being a 3 minute walking sequence. That's it. That's all they're there. You don't even get to kill one. Such a waste.
Well, we have exactly the same opinion. One of my favourite sentences I've written is in this script: I spoil the entire story in the video and it's an old game so I think we can talk about it,...

TNC feels like 5 great Lego sets mashed together into one unrecognizable mess.
I spoil the entire story in the video and it's an old game so I think we can talk about it, but the thing that happens before the upgrade is one of my major gripes with the plot. Not necessarily because it's uncalled for, but because it doesn't feel earned. The plot didn't focus enough on earning it because the plot didn't focus on anything, unfortunately.
I wrote my friend a really long, rambling breakdown of this game right after I finished playing it a couple years ago. Wish I could find it. The story is just so... bonkers.

Ah that sucks that you can't find it again! If you can summon the rambling spirits again to get your thoughts across I'd be interested to listen. I think what The New Order did well is, it kept the insanity to the gameplay only, but the cinematics always felt so real. The New Colossus feels almost like a Tarantino movie without the obligatory feet scene.
You do get to kill some of them if you replay locations with the enigma machine but yes there aren't as many hooded men to kill as I'd have liked. Another sequel to a beloved franchise that didn't...

Another sequel to a beloved franchise that didn't meet fan expectations was Mafia 3 (which I did like, I found it to be a perfectly cromulemt open world game) and in that one you got to crucify and light on fire the leader of the games KKK.
