Huh I hadn't played for some time, I remember watching a dev cast about the update though, this one.
Visibility & Animations: Enhanced visibility with Screen Space Ambient Occlusion, updated shooting animations, and new hit sound effects.
Armor & Health: Armor is now purely cosmetic. Each class has different HP values, and health bars are added (can be disabled).
Time-to-Kill (TTK) Balance: New base TTK around 400ms for a better gameplay experience.
Explosives & Movement: New grenade and C4 indicators, movement nerfs, and adjustments to explosive damage and RPG effectiveness.
Cosmetic Updates: Showcasing new ghillie suits and weapon charms.
Sound & Visual Feedback: Improved sound effects, detailed death info, medic request function, and sound occlusion.
Technical Improvements: Integration of a new sound engine and SG550 rework.
Maps & Weather: Unique lighting and weather conditions with a small chance for rain maps.
Some good stuff, but also stuff I was rather unenthused about. Maybe they aren't final, but the dev seemed rather excited, and if it gets folks back in, then perhaps it is for the best.

It's such a difficult thing to balance for the general audience. I'm concerned that the TTK increase may frustrate many players by having to hit an enemy 6+ times and believe it will make many of the weaker guns non-viable on official servers. Thankfully the community server settings allow hosts to adjust damage multipliers for players that prefer very low TTK.

A few months back I posted a review about my experience with BattleBit in the weekly What Are You Playing thread. Since then my hope that the fabled update would materialize had all but faded away, and just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in!
TL;DR: A large overhaul update for the game was announced to release in April 2024, the update didn't happen and the developers went mostly radio-silent until today.

This might encourage me to give it another try. I've stopped playing competitive FPSes a while ago, but I still get that itch from time to time.

Armor being purely cosmetic sounds really good to me. I hated that whole armor thing.

I hope it can become big again. I like FPS's but I've never been that into playing online, but I had SO MUCH FUN in BattleBit.
