I've been playing this game for a while now (actually just played some last night) and totally forgot it wasn't in 1.0 yet. It's felt pretty complete and polished for a few months now, if not years. Great take on the survivor genre if anyone likes that sort of game. Good with a controller or on steam deck too.

I've been playing occasionally on my steam deck and it's a perfect game for the console. Easy to play in relatively short bursts, pauses/suspends well if you need to put it down suddenly, controls are excellent, and most importantly: fun! Each run feels like you (have the chance to) make some progress, and there are a bunch of different challenges to take on. I strongly recommend anyone giving it a shot if swarm shooters interest you at all.

Agreed. My only gripe with it on the deck is that the letters are a tiny bit too small. Not a huge deal or anything, but I'd love to be able to set the visual scale to something like 110% or 125%....

Not a huge deal or anything, but I'd love to be able to set the visual scale to something like 110% or 125%. I can't remember exactly, but I think there's a setting for that in the game but it doesn't actually make the words any larger. Maybe there's a steam deck workaround that I'm not familiar with that could fix it, but it hasn't bothered me enough to seek it out.

So I tried this out in its very first live demo, which must have been a year ago? Or at least felt like it. It’s been a minute, at any rate. I adore DRG, and I really like some survivor games (Vampire Survivors is still one of my faves). But that very first demo just didn’t grab me. It wasn’t bad, it just felt tedious. Would you recommend that I give the game another shot? GSG has my fervent support so I’m more than happy to spend the money, I’m just hoping to hear from someone that there has been a noticeable boost to the gameplay loop since that first demo. Thoughts?

Edit: tagging @terr in the parent comment since they weighed in as well!

I'd say it's definitely worth trying again. They've added a lot to the game (like weapons and weapon mods and challenges and game modes). I'm in a different boat since I never actually played DRG prior to playing this game. So I was very confused at the beginning (DRG:S does a terrible job of explaining what the different minerals and stuff you mine do, so it was a lot of trial and error before I learned that red sugar heals you, or that the other colorful ones were used to unlock things across different runs, or that gold and nitra are the main two currencies in each run, or that different levels will have unique objectives like the blue mineral or those mushrooms or whatever).

But once I got the hang of it and learned which resources did what, I felt that it was way more enjoyable than other survivor-like games. The added depth of having to mine for resources and the ability to create your own paths really adds to the typical mowing-down-hoards-of-enemies thing that survivor-likes do really well. Plus the visuals and audio and everything are all very well polished.

I bought this a while back (big updates were still being worked on at the time) but my available gaming time has dwindled so much I've barely touched it. I'll have to revisit it after the update.

One of the things I love most about the game is that I can play in short burst (like 5-15 mins) whenever I have some spare time, without worrying about a story or remembering things or having to load saves. Just pick up, play for a bit, then put down when life beckons.

I picked it up because I enjoy Vampire Survivors so much. I also have Halls of Torment, though a single session in that game can still take quite a while. I was also looking into one called something like Be My Horde, as the gimmick there (mostly just presentation) seemed just different enough. But yes. The bullet heaven genre is great for a quick dopamine hit and getting my brain off real world stuff for a bit.

Lately, when I do have time I still want to try and make progress in my bigger games, even if I end up with a disjointed memory of the overall story.

Hmmmm I should pick this up again. It was and it still looks to be super grindy though. I never really cared about the meta progression, but the weapon upgrades are also gated. Sometimes behind steep challenge runs. Because some weapons never had the ability to upgrade much it made runs rather samey (as only a handful of weapons have their upgrades unlocked) until you did the thing like starting with an awful weapon and forcing yourself through the challenge.
