Black Flag is probably my favorite Assassin's creed game, it's very easy to shut off your brain and just sing sea shanties and hunt treasure.

I played it on PS3 and I played and finished it on Switch Lite.

Then I wanted to experience the game once more on PC and bought it on Steam. And then got refund. I expect the same with this remake, so, sadly, I will pass on it.

I hope studios will eventually stop doing anti-consumer stuff or simply go out of business because of it. I don't believe any of those two.options will happen, though.

Heh. I just started the Temeraire book series recently, and the ship combat inspired me to look into ship combat games. Turns out, nobody has truly topped the ship combat in Black Flag, which I played more than any other AC game just because the ships were so fun.

I wonder how much "new content" they'll truly add to a game I already played so hard. Personally I would prefer a new game with similar ship mechanics (and expanded mechanics, like a larger map, more legendary ships, and a diverse range of ship types for your personal ship depending on how you want to play). But I guess we'll just get AC:IV with a content filter and a few new quests instead. Maybe I'll pick it up in a couple of years on Steam sale if it supports macOS.

Completely different vibe than Black Flag, but the best ship combat I've ever seen in a game is Empire: Total War in case you're still looking to scratch that itch for 18th century naval warfare. It's more of a top-down RTS style of ship combat, it's pretty cool how there are different classes of ships, different types of projectiles that you can use for specific purposes (like grapeshot against the troops of a ship trying to board you, or chainshot to take down masts of faster ships so you can catch up). And the naval combat in the game actually plays an important role too, since the whole game is about colonization and shipping lanes.

But I'm definitely biased and have a special place in my heart for the game since I played a lot of it in high school, then ended up going to college for history and working at a museum that had all of those naval artifacts like cannons and grapeshot that I had learned about from playing Empire.

Check out Windrose too! It was just released to early access but from what I can tell, the ship combat is at least reminiscent of Black Flag. It's a little janky, but not where it matters.

Read something yesterday saying Windrose was some sort of spiritual successor to Black Flag. Anyone played it? Is it any good? It's still in early access.

It's open world and a lot of fun, but a very different game really. It's pirate valheim more than assassins creed. The boarding is less good than black flag for sure, as is the melee combat. The seas are gorgeous, it has shanties, and the ship to ship combat feels more comparable. I am enjoying it immensely so far, but I love Valheim.
