It's kind of wild to see the convergent evolution in the handheld PC space. DroidDeck adding multiple storefronts, Gamenative going into VR, Armada OS is a SteamOS rom for Android handhelds that is adding Android functionality back in through Lepton. Wild to see where this is all going to be in a few months, especially if some of the side effects of RAMageddon are that phones are the most powerful devices some people have.

I've seen other projects like GameNative, GameHub, Winlator and others that allow you to play your Steam (and other storefront/computer games) on an Android device. I had honestly been lazy to try this out, but with how straightforward DroidDeck was to get setup I figured I'd give it a go.

So far it has worked pretty well in the couple of games I've tried it on. I did try the original MassEffect today and while it runs, the controller support integration isn't working for some reason, but if I connected a keyboard and mouse to my phone I'd be off to the races.

It also blows me away that this project was initially published less than a month ago. I'm really looking forward to see where this goes, and it also makes me hope for the day when Steam just decides to release SteamOS for ARM Android devices now that they have it running on the SteamFrame.

AI is a big part of why Droid Deck is in the state it is, I am not sure how much human there is in the loop, but I already refuse to log in to my account on these PC emulators/translators so I stick with using DRM free copies of my Steam games instead on GameNative.

I think it'll be a much bigger player in personal compute in the coming years. Especially thanks to Proton and FEX.

It bodes well for a tiny, silent ARM box hooked up to a TV for use as a sort of “omni-console”. It might not run the latest AAAs but it’d be enough for a huge swath of gaming history, which is...

It bodes well for a tiny, silent ARM box hooked up to a TV for use as a sort of “omni-console”. It might not run the latest AAAs but it’d be enough for a huge swath of gaming history, which is enough to keep many people entertained for a very long time.

I'll be reading this throughout my day during my downtime, but it is cool to see how this project built off the previous projects I had been hearing about but hadn't taken the time to explore.
