I generally enjoy running mods on single player games such as these after I have beat them once. But I actually support Take-Two in this case. I remember the frustration of modders joining an online session and ruining it for everyone else. Or spawning millions of dollars on me, which killed any motivation I had to grind in the game and actually earn things. Really took a lot of fun out of the game, which ultimately led to me quitting GTA:O.

I don't know anything about GTA online so I'm genuinely surprised that modding the game affects multiplayer. What kind of awful design is that?

As I understand GTA Online uses a p2p type networking solution (alongside dedicated servers for a few core things like matchmaking). This makes it much much more vulnerable to cheaters.

I am not a developer or anything, so it's hard to criticize something that I don't understand entirely. However, I do think that more could have been done to stop this. It sounds like there were a lot of programs such as the one from the article that allowed users to pull off things like this in game. I think it's a failure of their anti-cheat.

But it absolutely did affect it. Players would join in with God mode and destroy your vehicles in your garage. Or spawn fighter jets and follow you around, which caused problems even if you were in passive mode (you can't shoot or be shot) because as soon as you got out of your vehicle they were able to blow it up. Often times leaving you stranded in the desert. Just really ruined the experience for me and my friends.
