I have to admit, I was a bit expecting a shallow PR statement, but they honestly sound serious. Hopefully their efforts will lead to positive changes.

I definitely share the skepticism. However, I do think it's a notable first step to bring in outside consultation, and honestly following the damn law is a pretty low bar that they really need to be in compliance with. Beyond that, guess we'll see how much of their consultants report they chose to "believe" and implement.

The key, I think, is if there are steps after the first one. I think that they'll follow through with the things they've said here, but the question is if they'll continue to work on it after the heat has died down.

        I'd guess not, personally.

I work for a product-oriented company, and one of the things I've realized across the years is that employee experience is just as much a "product" as anything else our company produces. If you don't keep iterating, then things will just get stale and then you become complacent with a slightly different set of problems.

Riot needs to commit to investing in this for years to come. Perhaps setting up two C-level execs and building their orgs are enough. But I also think this post seems reactionary and not open enough—in their post they could have invited public comment from people which might have been affected to a private internal resource staffed by people empowered to make a difference, for instance.

This will change very little, so many men are disfunctional in how they interact with each other in creative positions. They tear into each other and their creations until they reach a point where they start working together to objectify women as a way to assert they are all superior simultaneously by virtue of having dicks. If there's a solution to this disgusting display of inhumanity good luck finding it, experience has taught they're going to be hacking into your PC and filling it with dog porn while you ponder such things.

I'm skeptical but also somewhat hopeful. They sounded serious, like they were actually trying to make things better. One of the nice things about the openness of the internet is that we're more likely to hear the views from those that were harmed. I hope that if Riot's culture does or doesn't change, we still get feedback from employees.

Certainly a reasonable public response and set of first steps. Will be interesting to see how things play out.

One thing I find interesting about this development is that Riot is only now choosing to respond after the first testimonial put out there by a man.

I think (hope) that might be reading too much into the timing, but I did find it weird that they didn't seem to respond significantly to the original Kotaku article (at least as far as I saw). That seemed to get a ton of circulation, and I was surprised that they didn't seem to have a significant response.

They've probably just been hoping that it would pass, but since it keeps coming back up they decided to finally address it.
