Favorite recent fighting game that is not well known?

I really like the "idea" of fighting games, as I like playing against others and outplaying them, guessing their moves and the mind games etc. But the only fighting game ive legitimately enjoyed was Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, and id like to play something more recent.

It had alot of personality, each character felt different enough despite the size of the roster, and it was easy enough for a casual like me to get into while still not feeling too easy. Out of the new fighting games ive tried Fighterz, but it doesnt have enough character variety (not a dbz fan), the new MvC has a bad roster, Street fighter was too technical and idk boring? MK is very clunky, ive tried tekken but it didnt really grab me, and skullgirls hasn't either.
I want a game I can stick with and get good at, but the mainstream titles don't really appeal to me, does anyone have a suggestion?

Surprisingly the last Tekken game that came out is a pretty good approximation of the mechanics that I liked from Virtua Fighter. Sure, it doesn't have the same realism that Virtua has, but it has some nice mechanics that make it fresh, and that makes up the difference to me. That being said, it's getting old too.

The only other newish fighting game I have enjoyed is Nitroplus Blasterz. And I will fully admit that it's entirely because I enjoy fighting as Sonico. It's just so darn cute. Fighting the other Nitroplus characters is just a bonus.

I haven't had the chance to pick it up yet, but I am still sort of looking forward to playing Blade Strangers. I really like Studio Saizensen and the characters they put in the game. But it's more of a novelty fighting game (if that makes any sense), so it may be a while before I actually make the purchase.

I have a few friends that have good things to say about Brawlout. Its an indie clone of the super smash brothers style of gameplay and I personally like the graphics styling (but some might find it too cartoonish). I have it in my steam library but have yet to try it out, the reviews are currently pretty mixed but the game did just recently come out.

Also, If you are willing to try it out again I have had a lot of fun with Tekken7.

Granted I really only play fighters to pass time or with friends that like them, so I would assume there are better options out there.

Well, if you can ditch the recent, then the Double Dragon trilogy, originally released in 1987, but running smoothly today with multiplayer, is fantastic.
