VR Suggestions?
Looking for VR game suggestions. Turns out there's a lot of crap to dig through to get to the good stuff. Give me your best of the best. I'll start us off:
Multiplayer - Arizona Sunshine, Pavlov, Rec Room
Single player - Sairento, Beat Saber
Singleplayer:
Rez Infinite was pretty cool and trippy as hell. It's an old Dreamcast/PS2 game that was ported over to VR. I didn't play all that much of it, but one of my friends played the shit out of it while they were here visiting and absolutely loved it.
Subnautica is a brilliant game and the VR port is good, although I did have some framerate issues occasionally even with my 980Ti. That was quite a while ago though, so it may be better now. However my biggest issue with it was actually that it was too immersive and often incredibly disorienting as a result, so I wound up finishing it in plain old 2D. It's free on the EPIC store right now though so if you haven't picked it up I would suggest doing so, even if you don't wind up playing it in VR.
Space Pirate Trainer was my go-to "hop on, play a bit, hop off" game when I first got my Vive. Just be careful playing too much of it... after I played for an hour straight I couldn't walk up the goddamn stairs the next day since it's basically "rack squat simulator, the game". :P
theBlu is the "game" I demo to everyone who wants to try my Vive. It's just a handful pre-scripted scenarios but it's absolutely gorgeous and a really neat experience.
Rick and Morty: Virtual Rick-ality is absolutely not worth the full price... full stop. But it was still pretty fun, especially as a R&M fan.
Mutliplayer:
SportsBar VR is one of my favorites. It's really cool to just hang out with friends I haven't seen in a really long time and shoot the shit over a game of pool, air hockey, ski-ball or one of the myriad other games available in it.
Ditto for Bigscreen Beta. Me and a few friends with VR setups have hung out a bunch of times and just watched movies and shows together using this. We watched the latest Dave Chappelle specials together using it and it was an awesome experience. Plus, it's totally free!
Cloudlands : VR Minigolf is merely okay... but can be a lot of fun if you play it with the right people.
Games I haven't yet played but heard good things about:
Echo Combat was mentioned by tesseractcat in the "What were the best games you played this year?" topic and that one certainly piqued my interest.
To The Top and Windlands are one of my buddy's favorite VR games. I definitely wouldn't recommend them if you get motion sick at all though.
Budget Cuts. I haven't played the full game yet but the free demo was fantastic.
Please Don't Touch Anything 3D. I have only played the non-VR version (which is only $2 right now) but it was a great little puzzle/find-the-endings game, and from what I have seen of other people playing the VR version, the port is just fine. Just keep in mind it's only around a 1 hour game, so might not be worth paying full price for.
Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes. Again I haven't played this but have seen others do so (on YouTube) and it looked great. The game looks stressful enough as it is though so I can't imagine what playing in VR must be like.
Onward. Multiplayer Mil-sim in VR. Not really my thing to play but I loved watching others do so. I have no idea what the playerbase is like these days though.
Fallout 4 VR Same friend who loves To The Top and Windlands played the absolute shit out of this. I personally think Fallout 4 is the worst Fallout game and have very little interest in playing a VR port, but he seemed to get a kick out of it. And similarly there is Skyrim VR which I have also heard decent things about and will undoubtedly pick up for myself eventually. If I didn't already have 300 hours in the non-VR version (so am kind of sick of it) I would probably already own this.
Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice VR Edition. Looks stunning and has been incredibly well received. I can't wait to play this one once the price drops.
I'm seeing some good games in this thread. In addition I'd recommend:
SP:
MP:
If I think of anything else I'll add it here.
EDIT: Added a bunch more
I loved the normal version of Talos Principle, but I had avoided buying the VR version since it was fairly expensive. It's 85% off on Steam for the next two days though, which is by far the cheapest it's ever been, so I'm going to pick it up now (and by now I've probably forgotten enough of the game that it'll be a good playthrough again).
In Death is one of my favorites. It's a single-player, roguelike-ish game based around archery. I haven't played it since it released from Early Access, but it was already really good in EA and I definitely intend to go back to it. I especially enjoyed how they made teleport-based movement make sense as actual game mechanics.
If you liked Beat Saber and aren't afraid of Japanese DDR-ish music, Airtone is also really good as a designed-for-VR rhythm game. It's has "programmed" songs, not auto-generated ones like Audioshield and co. (those can be fine too, but they're not really the same). It feels good to play and gets challenging pretty quickly. There's a decent amount of content too, they just recently added 5 more songs in a free update, so it has 30 songs now with 3 difficulties (and the hardest difficulty is really hard).
Was In Death the VR archery game you mentioned being awesome way back when? I love the archery demo in The Lab but forgot to wishlist the game you told me about. I ask because for some reason I remember it looking much simpler than In Death... although maybe I am thinking of something else.
It should be. I think they've added quite a bit to the game over time, I don't even recognize a lot of the enemies/areas that I can see in the screenshots on the Steam page.
Couldn't recommend rec room enough. It's a complete blast, it's multiplayer, and it has some staying power.
