A lengthy examination of the point-and-click adventure games of the 80's and 90's.

Whoa... when did Ahoy start doing full length gaming documentaries? I used to watch him back when he just covered video game weapons, but quickly lost interest and haven't checked out his channel...

Thanks for sharing this, @multubunu. Adventure games are one of my favorite genres and Monkey Island is one of my favorite series. I have even bought and played most of the series multiple times on pretty much every platform they're available on (including the remastered versions), and even have them all + a bunch of other LucasArts/Westwood/Sierra classics installed on my old jailbroken iPad using ScummVM for iOS. So I can't wait to watch this when I get some time later tonight!

There's more. The documentary on polybius is amazing as well, discussed here: https://tildes.net/~games/al1/polybius_the_video_game_that_doesnt_exist

Cool... looks like I am going to have to dive into his back catalogue of vids at some point and watch all the ones that pique my interest (which that ones does too). Thanks.

Nice to see another Monkey Island fan in the wild! Most people in my social circles have never heard of it, let alone played any of the games. I usually shy away from YouTube videos over 15 mins...

I usually shy away from YouTube videos over 15 mins long, but when I get some time I'll give this one a watch.

Edit: Well, I watched the whole thing. This was exactly in line with my gaming history and interests. Fantastic review of the history of adventure games, LucasArts, and the MI series in general. I’ve played the first three many, many times and know a lot about them already, but I never touched EMI and only played the very beginning of the first Tales episode. I appreciate that the video included everything.

My favorite parts were the reminder of that awesome unexpected Guybrush portrait Easter egg in Uncharted 4 (I was giddy when I first encountered that), coverage of The Cave (seriously, go play this if you haven’t, it’s great), and the footage of Thimbleweed Park (I’d been meaning to pick that one up but forgot about it).

I also really enjoyed the apt tie-ins of a variety of other games from classic text adventures to Myst, The 7th Guest, and Half-Life 2. I didn’t get the remark he made about the puzzles in Flight of the Amazon Queen; some of those were impenetrable but I still liked that one a lot. I also got a good nostalgia tickle seeing the Fate of Atlantis footage, I’m long overdue for playing that one again.

Anyway, I’m glad I watched this. Thanks for posting it!
