I'm not sure what happened at the start of the PS4/X1 generation but a month before the PS4's launch, it was like the gaming community collectively decided that 720p/30fps wasn't good enough for consoles anymore leaving Sony and Microsoft scrambling, and resulting in the Pro and X1X models. I wouldn't be surprised if Microsoft and Sony are waiting each other out to see who drops their MSRP first because they will be the big loser and the other company can swoop in looking like heroes with an undercut price.

Can't help but remember the audible "BOO" when one of the console prices was announced and it was a bit high (can't remember if it was ps3 or something else)

There weren't any boos when the price of the PS3 was announced (link), but there certainly were a lot of memes about it after.

Ah, must've been the stream I was watching at the time.

I mean, is it really such a surprise at this point? PC prices for roughly equivalent hardware are probably going to be more. It’s all x86 all the way down.

I had decent enough PC back in the day (really back in the day, like Tribes 2 days) but hated how outdated it felt a year later when beefier GPUs came out at prices I couldn't afford. Is that what you're referring to?

That's one of the only reasons I ever got into consoles; I liked just knowing my console would work at the same level as everyone else/nobody really had any advantages over one another (unless of course they used a mouse & keyboard) and that it handled all the updates and experience for me...

...that and Naughty Dog, mostly Naughty Dog. I just love my Uncharted & The Last of Us so much.

A bottleneck just means when one part is holding the others back. For instance, if your GPU is capable of pushing 120fps, but your CPU can only manage to get those frames out at 60fps, you're CPU...

You really do not need to purchase the best hardware to do everything you want to do. A lot of options are just plain overkill.

You don't need liquid cooling. Liquid cooling is basically entirely aesthetic at this point. A good air cooler is usually a better option than liquid simply because it requires much less maintenance.

You don't need the fastest SSD. NVME is overkill for most situations. Just get yourself a regular (but good quality) SATA SSD.

You don't need to get a super-high-end CPU. Most games don't use too many threads, so more cores does not really help you much.

Likewise, a super high-end GPU doesn't help you too much. Mid-range cards right now are plenty powerful enough to play most games at a comfortable level.

If all you want to do is gaming then most of what you've said here is 100% correct - I'll fight you on NVME though, that shit is INSANELY good if you hate loading times as much as I do. There's...

There's more to PCs than just games though, and the higher end GPUs do things like video rendering with far more bang for you buck.

Liquid cooling is a joke though, no need for that.

Of course there is more, but at that point you are a professional and should know what kind of computer you need (at least in theory).

You don't need to be a professional to want to make hobby films - just look at /r/highqualitygifs.
