I don't know why I haven't gotten into these games. From a distance I see them and just think "meh, I want something with a story." but when I'm blankly starting at my game collection deciding what to play, I feel like Doom would be a perfect drop in and drop out experience to just touch on every now and again.

And yeah, it's pretty much ideal for when I just want to play something right now. There's a value to something you can drop in and out of quickly, to get that quick fix in. I love story-based games and other games that require some initial investment to get into the groove and the flow. But the downside is that, sometimes, I just need something I can jump into quickly and have full access and undestanding with immediately.
I really wish more games had something built-in where-- if the player hadn't played in ~2 weeks or so-- they'd give you a quick controls refresher and a previously, on cutscene to bring you back...

I think you answered your own question 😂 I frankly very much enjoy games which allow this kind of play style because I often don't find myself with the amount of time to game as I once had....

Something with a low barrier of entry which can be played for a short period of time in case I have to leave and do something is perfect for my current life.
I've been replaying Doom 2016 recently and it honestly still holds up, it's just such a nice and polished experience. The only reason I would not recommend it is if somebody specifically didn't...

I am a huge fan. DOOM 2016 is still a severely under rated masterpiece. The campaign is huge and has lots of secrets. The online multiplayer is some of the best there is ( when the servers are doing good). Plus Mick Gordon working on the soundtrack takes the game to a higher level. I think DOOM Eternal could go down as the best FPS we’ve ever had.

If you don't already own it, there's a good price for it in Fanatical's spring sale right now: https://www.fanatical.com/en/game/doom
Six bucks? I'd be a fool not get it!
Thanks!

I wrote something up about Doom 2016 the last time I played it. There's a visceral thrill to playing this game due to its simplicity, it's worth checking out for sure.
