This is a really good thing, from what I've heard from beta players. The expansion's just really not ready for prime time and less importantly they were under the constraint of having to release the pre-patch with enough time between it and the expansion's release.
On the upside we did finally get a pre-patch release date (the 13th). For those out of the loop, in addition to extra content to ease us into the expansion, the pre-patch includes the revamped leveling system. The revamp squishes the # of levels from 120 to 60 and streamlines the leveling process substantially. A lot of folks, myself included, are more excited about being able to level up alts quickly than getting to play around with the pre-patch content.
So really the only downside is that now I need to figure out what I'm going to do for the next 2 weeks in-game, because farming the same mounts on Mechagon is draining my will to play.
Agree wholeheartedly The whole covenant system definitely still needs work for balancing, and quite frankly some of them could stand to be completely reworked entirely, but I do look forward to...

I’ve got a couple Alts that I just gave up on awhile ago knowing there was a much faster system coming.

I got lucky and got the Arachnoid mount but the damn rusty bird won’t give me the Grievous Mobile
I pretty much only log in right now for that and Argent Tournament dailies
