About five years ago, I went on a day trip with my friend to a nearby town because someone on Craigslist there was selling a mint condition Sony Trinitron from the “golden” age of CRTs, when they had perfected the technology but hadn’t started cheaping out on quality. It was about two and a half hours each way and I didn’t understand why he was willing to drive five hours just to get an old TV. Guess he’s not the only one who was on the lookout for these things.
There’s tons of old gaming accessories that just don’t work on newer TVs. They were designed to take advantage of the unique quirks of how a cathode ray tube television works - like the NES Zapper or most other light guns.
