A misguided attempt to improve the Challenger 2 tank in the free-to-play MMO War Thunder will not, it seems, result in any improvements to the vehicle. That’s because Gaijin Entertainment will not (and cannot, legally speaking) use classified information in the development of its game

And then he told them anyway and killed his own career and possibly freedom.

      I have no words.

TBF, it doesn't seem like it's super secret stuff. I highly doubt the major nation state adversary of UK haven't already got copies of the manual.

This farce was reported in the Guardian, PC Gamer and the UK Defense Journal as well. Strangely, it was allegedly the not the first time that user posted sensitive documents, and they remain unbanned. In fact, all that seems to have happened is that the thread was locked. Perhaps the wheels are still turning at Gaijin HQ and they're wondering how best to respond to what has now become an internationally reported incident.

The inability to accurately model the armour of modern tanks, due to them being, well, still in service, is probably the primary reason why it was a bad idea to include them at all. I think the armour in question was meant to be around the cannon breech, and at top tier the breech and barrel are priority frontal targets - at least if you can't insta-kill through another weak spot like the underbelly. The Challenger 2 is now ironically condemned to a disappointing level of performance (at least for the next several years), since any action to amend it toward reality would potentially land Gaijin in hot water.

If a vehicle is at an inherent disadvantage due to its performance or repair costs, it becomes limited largely to enthusiasts. If those enthusiasts do well, they inflate the vehicle's performance, resulting in misleading data that will cause Gaijin to 're-balance' it by increasing its Battle Rating, which will pit it against more dangerous enemies and further discourage the majority of players from touching it. At top tier, you generally have to do quite well to justify the cost of spawning in. I shudder to imagine trying to accomplish that whilst simultaneously trying to grind out every single vehicle mod so your crew can competently aim, move, repair and extinguish fires, all while you're facing fully equipped and trained crews who can swivel their turret around to smoke you through a weak spot as you reload.
