I agree with everything in the post, but also think it should be a snow day. Let people who are stuck at home enjoy a bit of leisure instead of expecting full 40hr+ productivity, but at home now....

Let people who are stuck at home enjoy a bit of leisure instead of expecting full 40hr+ productivity, but at home now.

Provide free food, suspend all rent/mortage/debt payments nationwide for a few months, and try to make a stressful situation at least a little less worse for people now being couped up at home.

Worth the risk IMO if it means keeping people from dying or getting shafted from running out of money because they can't work from home and their employer isn't giving them sick or other paid time...

Let the financial system fail. It should have failed in 2008. Give out FDIC for up to $250k in the bank, wipe the slate clean and start fresh. Probably wouldn't be as nice as I'm imagining, but it's a fun fantasy.

To avoid further confusion, you want to do that in an orderly way, though. It's called a tax increase.

Yeah... when that happens, people die. Lots of people die, way more than are projected to die from this virus. Starving to death or getting killed in riots seems pretty not fun.

I would like to know who dies if this series of events occurs:

            • Banks fail en-mass.
            • FDIC kicks in, gives cash to everybody up to 250k.

Paired with some sensible emergency measures to insure everyone gets fed and not kicked out of their homes, and it seems like the only people who suffer are the ones who cause these crisises in the first place.

Money and debt is a social construct. It is not necessary for life. We could eliminate it in short order and life would likely be better for the majority.

All the people who lose their jobs and can no longer afford medical care, all the people who lose their homes and are now crowded into tight quarters with poor hygiene during a pandemic, all the people who are impacted by increased crime levels by a populace who is now plunged into poverty and with nothing to do all day. The concept of "The Financial System" being a thing that rich people worry about that doesn't affect normal people isn't correct. Money and debt is necessary for life the way that our society is structured. It coming crumbling down would hurt virtually everyone, but it would hurt the poor and middle class a lot more than it would hurt the rich.

    From the article:

    From the article:

    1. We need to push our local, state, and national leaders to close ALL schools and public spaces and cancel all events and public gatherings now.

    2. No kid playdates, parties, sleepovers, or families/friends visiting each other’s houses and apartments.

    3. Take care of yourself and your family, but maintain social distance. [...] And though we may wish to visit elders in our community in person, I would not visit nursing homes or other areas where large numbers of the elderly reside, as they are at highest risk for complications and mortality from coronavirus.

    4. Reduce the frequency of going to stores, restaurants, and coffee shops for the time being.

    5. If you are sick, isolate yourself, stay home, and contact a medical professional.

I just canceled on a friends birthday party because of these recommendations. Well, and I’m having a bad day and not in a party mood. Another friend convinced me I won’t die if I get the virus, but I still don’t want to be a carrier and bring it to a grocery store or to my roommates. It’s a good article. My friend with the birthday will be okay, and I need some time to myself today.
