Congrats - I too had a nasty nail biting habit that I managed to rid myself of a few years ago. My method was to carry around a pack of wooden toothpicks and chew on one of those whenever I found my hand drifting towards my mouth. Eventually the splinters and poking from the toothpicks got tiring and I found myself using them less and less.

I did have to remember how to cut my nails properly afterwards as it had been quite a long time since I needed to do so.

But all the same, it's important to celebrate the little victories in life, so good job again :)

    Congrats!!

I'll share my method as well: I figured that if I was going to obsessively fidget with my nails I might as well do it in the caring way. So I mixed up some nail strengthener oils, bought 50 of those diy nail pens from amazon, filled them and stashed them EVERYWHERE.

In my bags, my coats, my desk drawers. Handed them out to my friends so if i was around them i knew they'd prob have a nail pen on them.

And every time I caught myself fidgeting with my nails, I would deliberately grab a nail pen and oil them instead (and massage in the oil until it was gone).

It worked very very well! Though I do sometimes fall back into bad habits if I'm stressed and there are no nail-care items around. So I try and stay on top of that!

Very well done on your habbit-kicking!!

Congratulations from one nail-biting expert to another!

I find myself in a similar situation recently: my nails haven't been this healthy in forever, despite me passing through a really stressful time. I have relied on toothpicks in the past to chew on, but this time it is different: I have a number of job interviews lined up were I absolutely can't have bad nails. And I play guitar more seriously then I used to. Seems like alI I needed was a really good reason or two not to bite my nails... lets hope its enough to keep me going for a while to loose the habit.

I have no idea where else to put this question on the internet, but since this is a place where fellow ex-biters seem to gather: did your nails grow back "normally" after years of abuse, or do some nails kept some mild form of deformation?

I'm somewhat of a nail biter, but I don't actually bite my nail off, I moreso wedge my teeth between the nail and the fleshy pad, like I'm trying to scrape debris out from in my nailbed. I'm more of a face picker. I'm working on it. Luckily I've been taking care of my skin lately and so there is less for me to pick.

Another fellow ex-nailbiter chiming in. I've been off of it for over 25 years which is crazy to think about. I remember how proud of myself I was when I was able to stop and would need to use clippers for real. I don't think I'll ever be able to fully shake the urge because I still constantly groom them with my teeth, but I'll continue taking that win.
