Ketamine is shown to help depression! And magic mushrooms can help PTSD. I think LSD assisted therapy is also trying to pass trials. It's amazing what some of these drugs can do if used correctly.
I'm not sure I'd use this phrase here, because it implies using these drugs outside of the treatment of a specific disease is using it "incorrectly". I believe I know what you're getting at, but...

I believe I know what you're getting at, but I'm not sure we can truly say that someone who regularly or semi-regularly doses small to large amounts of hallucinogens for their own enjoyment is using them "incorrectly". I think Alexander Shulgin is a great example of someone who had a very successful life and also used a fuckton of hallucinogens.
Well, I was more thinking about how neurotoxic MDMA can be if redosed too often/in large amounts. And anything that can trigger psychosis can be really bad for you in the long run. However you're...

Right, MDMA is a bit special because it sits halfway between a hallucinogen and a stimulant (a very powerful one, at that) and because of this it's neurotoxic whereas most hallucinogens are not....

MDMA is traditionally not classified with other hallucinogens, or at least it wasn't when I studied the neurobiology of drugs back in college. The mechanisms of action of MDMA are drastically different than what you see out of nearly all other hallucinogens, and is due to the fact that it is also an amphetamine.
5HT-2A activation is a hallmark of hallucinogens, and MDMA very much prefers 5HT-2B. That being said, not all hallucinogens are 2A activators, and profiles tend to be all over the 5HT spectrum. I...

I think it's important to note that a releaser is an agonist, it just so happens that MDMA is a really, really strong 5HT agonist and utilizes several mechanisms simply not seen in other hallucinogens which is why it's so neurotoxic.

And after that, if we're lucky, we'll start decriminalizing drugs and instead producing and taxing them and using those taxes to support drug rehab and educational programs.
The study found reductions in the social anxiety that were significantly greater for participants who received MDMA-assisted psychotherapy than for those who received placebo (psychotherapy without MDMA). On average, participants in the placebo group experienced reductions of 19.3 points on the Liebowitz Social Anxiety Scale (LSAS), compared to 44.1 reductions in the MDMA group.

For an alternative way of dealing with drugs in our society, we should really look at Portugal: Portugal’s radical drugs policy is working. Why hasn’t the world copied it?

I have no answer to that :D
Is there anything MDMA can't do?
It can't save you from being thrown in jail for possessing a schedule I drug
Well, shit. Even cocaine can't do that, though it sure helps to be rich and white.

MDMA is also shown to help PTSD patients process trauma.
