I really remember being told, when the leaked Dobbs decision came out, that I was being alarmist and should essentially calm down ("and stop being so hysterical" was only implied)
I was so livid. And came back, six months later when the decision was made and asked if I could be permitted to be concerned now.
To his credit the guy apologized, and expressed his worry for the women in his life. But like ... This is what was going to happen. Atwood didn't invent the things in The Handmaid's Tale whole cloth. They all happened at some point to women somewhere.
As I usually do when this topic comes up, if anyone want to track this issue (from the pro-choice side), you can't do better than Jessica Valenti's Abortion, Every Day newsletter. There is a daily podcast for subscribers.
One of the things I find helpful about Abortion, Every Day when encountering this attitude is that I can say, "well X happened yesterday and Y happened last week". In the words of Rocco, "You start gettin' excited motherfucker, we gotta go!"
